Science Routes

Double Science

  • This is the standard route, and is taken by all pupils unless they choose

to take science in the option block process as well. It culminates in the award of two GCSE grades in science (hence ‘double’).

Triple Science

  • This is the route taken by students who have chosen science in the
  • ption block process. It culminates in the award of three GCSE grades

in science (hence ‘triple’).

Science: Key points

  • The new specifications have an increased amount of content from

prior GCSE science options.

  • The removal of controlled assessment means that the entire GCSE

grade relies on terminal examinations.

  • In physics there are twenty three equations for pupils to learn off

by heart (twenty one in double science) and to know which context to use them in.

  • There are twenty eight Required Practical activities (twenty one in

double science) that the examinations will ask specific questions about to test the pupils’ scientific ability. So skills as well as content are vital to success.

  • With these high demands on pupils, if they do not review,

consolidate and work hard outside of lessons, they will fall well below their capability. Homework is an essential part of their success.
