  2. About Mrs. Turnock •This is my tenth year working in District 117. Most of those years were spent teaching 2nd grade, but I am excited to have gotten promoted to 5th grade this school year. •I graduated from Illinois State University in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education. Last year, I received my Masters in reading from Olivet Nazarene University. •My husband and I have been married for 3 years. •I have a black lab named Axl, he is 9 years old but still thinks he is a puppy.

  3. About Mrs. Dempsey ● I began with District 117 twenty years ago. I spent 14 years at Conrady and the remainder here at Oak Ridge. ● I completed my undergrad at Loyola University & my masters at St. Xavier. ● I have 3 children - an 8th grader, 6th grader, & 5th grader! My interests are learning about and visiting new places, ● watching movies, spending time at the beach.

  4. Arrival and Dismissal Arrival begins at 8:15. If students arrive after 8:30 they will not be able to get breakfast. If students arrive after 8:40 they will not be placed in the lunch count and will need to bring a lunch. Dismissal begins at 2:45 If there are any sudden changes to your child’s arrival/dismissal, please contact the main office. We are not able to consistently check messages or emails during the school day. If you know ahead of time, send a written note stating your child’s change in arrival/dismissal plans to their homeroom teacher.

After reading, students will write a written response or summary of ● their chosen article.

Science Investigations Units Our Science curriculum is Earth & Sun - gravity & aligned to the Next patterns in shadows Generation Science Mixtures & Solutions - Standards. conservation of mass, Our units are called density investigations because Living Systems - food students will be exploring webs & ecosystems science up close with many hands on activities.

Student Led Conferences ● Students take ownership of their learning. ● Students show and explain work. ● Students can communicate their strengths and areas of need. ● Sign up will be completed online. SAVE THE DATE! Monday, November 19 th (afternoon & evening) Tuesday, November 20 th (morning)

  17. Scholastic Book Orders •A magazine will be sent home monthly with order information. •You can order online with a credit card or send cash or check to school.

  18. A Few More Things... We will be using Remind for parent-teacher communication. By joining Remind, you will choose to receive class text messages or email. This will help you stay informed about what’s happening in the classroom. Please join the PTA! Consider being a volunteer! Send in trimmed box tops at anytime.

  19. Wrap-Up •Using the stationary paper, please write a little note to your child to find on their first day of school. •Remember to sign the sign-in sheet. •Send any missing supplies with your child on Friday.
