Tips on Visiting Colleges

Go to the university/college’s admissions page to register for a campus visit

Complete College/Military Visit Form: Two visits allowed senior year

Plan your visit when students are actually on campus

Plan a visit when AHS is not in session: August 28th

Complete Campus Visit Score Card

Ask questions of students that you see on campus. Most likely, your tour guide will be a college student Design Your Own Visit:

Tour the campus

Meet with an admissions counselor

Meet with a financial aid officer

Observe a classroom lecture

Bring an unofficial high school transcript

Schedule an overnight visit (if possible)

Complete application online via the college/university’s admissions webpage

Pay application fee

(21st Century Scholars and free/reduced lunch students may qualify for fee waiver)

Request transcript via Naviance

If required, request teacher recommendations two weeks in advance (request in-person and via Naviance)

Complete Secondary School Report and submit to guidance (if required)

Complete College Application Checklist and submit to guidance

Check application deadlines for each individual college/university

Some programs have earlier deadlines (i.e. Engineering,

Nursing, Pharmacy) 

Submit all completed application materials by September 30th to allow ample time for counselors to finalize their portions

Purdue University: Merit-based scholarship deadline and Early Action Deadline to be notified on December 13th

Indiana University: Priority deadline for maximum scholarship consideration and application deadline to receive an admission decision by January 15th
