Counselor Support for Applications
- There is always a portion of your application that will need to be completed by your counselor – sometimes sending
a transcript, sometimes filling out a form/submitting a recommendation
- If you need a letter of recommendation, please fill out and submit a Parent Brag Sheet
- We will only process online applications through Common App – all other transcripts/recommendations must be
sent through the mail!
- Bring an envelope and stamp for every application not being processed through Common App – an email generated
by the college is not sufficient
- Make sure that you use the @boyertownasd.org email address when inviting your counselor through Common App
- Please allow 10 school days for applications to be processed – even online applications
- Be aware of all deadlines – schools will not process applications received late
Helpful Reminders for Online Apps
- Make sure to PROOFREAD your applications
- Save a copy of all of your applications before hitting submit
- Do not wait until the last minute to submit your applications
- Follow up with colleges to make sure that they have received all of your information if you
have not received a confirmation within 48 hours of submission
- Ask teachers IN PERSON to write a letter of recommendation for you – do not just send them
an invite via Common App
Financial Aid
- You can submit your FAFSA in October using last year’s tax information
- You and a parent must both create an FSA ID and will use this to complete the application
found at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa
- THIS IS A FREE APPLICATION – if you are prompted to pay a fee to submit your application, you
are on the wrong site
- If you are having difficulty completing the application, you can sign up for FAFSA Completion
Night on October 9th
- Each college will give you a Financial Aid Summary Letter based on the information that they
receive from your FAFSA, plus any need or merit based scholarships they are able to offer you
Scholarships
- The Counseling Office keeps a running list of scholarships on our webpage – bookmark the
page and check back often for new scholarship opportunities
- Scholarships specific to individual schools will be emailed out to the senior class via your
student email addresses
- Local scholarships will be made available to you via the Counseling webpage on March 1st
- Additional scholarships can be found through individual college webpages, scholarship
database websites, your workplace, your parents’ workplaces, your bank, your church, and many other community resources - If you take the time to seek them out, you’ll be surprised at how much you can receive in scholarship aid!
Questions?
- We’d love to meet with you!
- Fill out a pass in the counseling office and we will schedule an
appointment with you as soon as possible.
