Brief History of Our Calling

restoration
- Calling out Facilities Study Committee –
- Nicola Kiver, Cindy and Steve Carpenter, Steve Hathaway, Karen Moser, Ken Kline Smeltzer, Phil
Jones and Dale Roth, Bonnie Kline Smeltzer ex officio
- Charge to Committee: Coordinating Council called out a Building
Renovation Committee to “develop a and recommend a staged plan or plans for future remodeling of the church building to help address access and usability.”
What Committee Wanted WMF to Assess in a Feasibility Study?
- Primary needs:
- Accessibility
- Welcoming Environment
- Gathering Area
- Cohesive Administrative Area
- Improved Kitchen
- Secondary needs:
- More meeting rooms
- Better toilet rooms
- Air conditioning
- Better security
- Improved interiors
- Janitor closets
Limitations of Current Floor Plan
- Accessibility issues i.e. restrooms, meeting rooms and offices
- Welcoming environment: Narthex and Fellowship Room
- Access to main floor Pastor’s and Church offices
- Segmented program services between 2 levels
- Out dated and in accessible kitchen
- Current architectural deteriorations
- Aging utility systems
Study Process
- Formed several committees
- Programming‐ looked at needs for current mission and services
- Survey‐ researched local demographics and trends in Centre County and visited other
churches
- Finance‐ currently meeting to investigate capitol campaign
- WMF presented initial renovation plans (within the existing building
footprint)
- These did not meet the vision for our church – too constricting‐ needed and
expansion to address ‐ access to needed church areas and FLOW ‐ enhancement of welcoming space and relationship of critical church areas

- Electrical
- Lighting Upgrade‐ energy efficiency and to meet current building code
- Old wiring
- Aging Power Distribution – needs upgrades/ replaced for new uses such as air conditioning
- Fire Alarm needs upgrade to meet current building code (horn strobes etc)
- HVAC
- Plumbing
- Energy efficiencies
- Communications: WiFi
- Security
- Windows and doors

(relatively) recently replaced.
- The list below includes upgrades to adhere with current codes, increase
energy efficiency and/ or would be triggered by new demands on the building ie. Air Conditioning, A new elevator or a building addition
Electrical
- Lighting Upgrade‐ energy efficiency and to meet current building code
- Old wiring
- Aging Power Distribution – needs upgrades/ replaced for new uses such as air conditioning
- Fire Alarm needs upgrade to meet current building code (horn strobes etc)
