What Does TK Look Like?

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Traditional Kindergarten

  • Students are exposed to content

standards

  • Mastery of content standards is

expected

  • Program follows a modified

curriculum that meets the academic and social emotional needs of young children

  • Program follows a curriculum dictated

by a pacing guide

  • Students have an more time to master

content standards

  • Students may be retained if content

standards are not mastered

  • Program is student centered, driven

by individual student needs to ensure students develop individual assets

  • Program is teacher directed, driven by

expectations to master content standards

  • Social emotional development is

emphasized in order to help students develop prosocial skills

  • Discipline strategies are used to help

students stay on task
