  3. Kindergarten 101 General Information and School Rules 1. First bell rings at 8:20. Students may be brought to the classroom by parents the first day of school beginning at 8:00. Starting the 2nd day, students will need to go to the gym and they will come to the room when the bell rings. The tardy bell rings at 8:30. If students arrive after 8:30 they are considered tardy and will need a tardy slip from the office. 2. School dismisses at 3:45. If your child is a car rider, please place the paper tag we will provide for you with your child’s name and grade level in the dash of your car. This will help our dismissal process run more smoothly. Bus and day care riders will be escorted to their correct lines by a kindergarten teacher. 3. If your child is absent because of an illness, please send a note back to school within 3 days of the day absent or it will be counted as an unexcused absence. 4. If your child has a change in his or her transportation for going home, please notify the office before 3:00 so they can put the change on our transportation list that teachers check at the end of the day. 5 . If you plan to pick your child up early you must report to the office and your child will be sent down to you. Parents are not allowed to pick their child up from the classroom. 6. We ask that parents allow us time to get into our lunch routine the first two weeks of school. Parents will be allowed to eat with their child for lunch starting after Labor Day.

  4. Cafeteria Prices Breakfast: $1.25 for students $1.75 for adults Lunch: $ 2.25 for students $ 3.25 for adults Milk or juice: $.50 Students can send money to school in their child’s folder or notebook or parents can access their child’s lunch account online through Lunch Money Now on the Sunnyvale ISD website. You will need your child’s student ID number which you can get from your child’s teacher on Supply Drop-Off Night. Medicine All medications need to be sent in their original container along with a signed note including reasons and directions for the medication. This will be sent to the school nurse.

  5. Take Home Folders / Notebooks Students will take home a folder or notebook daily that will include important notes from the school and student behavior charts. The behavior chart will need to be initialed daily so that we know you are checking their folder and behavior. Lunch money, picture money, yearbook money, etc. will need to be sent in a envelope and put in their folder or notebook. This is the only place we will check for money, so please make sure it is returned in their folder. Backpacks Students need to bring a backpack to school each day unless stated by the teacher. Backpacks need to be able to fit in their own locker but also big enough to hold daily folder/notebook and lunchbox, etc.

  6. Behavior Chart - good day 1 - warning - note home Your child’s behavior will be marked on their behavior chart each day. Please make sure you look at it and initial the box daily. We use several positive incentives in our classrooms to encourage good choices such as happy tickets, sticker charts, treasure box, etc. Having your support from home helps in so many ways, so we greatly appreciate your partnership with us in this area!

  7. Birthdays You are welcome to drop off cupcakes or cookies for your child’s birthday for snacks. We also have set up a great way for you to get to know the parents in your child’s class. You can sign-up for the class Social Networking List and provide your email address for parents. We will put all the parents who signed up on an email list that you can ask for at any time during the year. This will allow you to send birthday invitations and communicate with other parents in your child’s classroom. This form will go out on Supply Drop-Off Night so stay tuned. Snacks We have class snacks each day. Parents may sign-up to bring snacks for the class. Each teacher will supply a monthly snack calendar. You will have the opportunity on Supply Drop-Off Night to sign-up to bring snacks for the first week of school as well. Once we have parents sign-up we will send home the monthly snack calendar. We encourage bringing healthy snacks such as goldfish, fruit snacks, fruit, crackers, cereal, etc.

  8. Remind 101 Remind 101 is a great way your child’s teacher can communicate and send you reminders throughout the year. You can sign-up for this on Supply Drop-Off Night and your teacher will be able to send you text reminders on your phone throughout the year.

  9. Potty Accidents Kindergarteners do have the occasional accident at school, so to help with this issue we wanted to ask that you send an extra pair of underwear and shorts or pants in their backpack as a backup each day. This would help the nurse throughout the year if they do have an accident. Thank you so much for your help!

  10. Dress Code Students can wear shirts, t-shirts, shorts, jeans, and dresses of their choice. Please make sure shirts do not have spaghetti straps and shorts are appropriate length for school. Please make sure girls wear shorts under their dresses and skirts. They do a lot of activities in PE and at recess where there could be a lot of “whoopsie-daisies”! Shoes Please make sure students wear their tennis shoes on PE days. Students do a lot of running and physical activities and we do not want them to get hurt. Labels Please put your child’s name on all of their jackets, coats, backpacks, and lunch boxes. That helps us locate missing items more quickly.
