The District Serves the Communities of San Mateo and Foster City

  • 20 Schools: Transitional Kindergarten – 8th Grade

– 12 Transitional Kindergarten sites – 15 elementary schools (K-5) – 2 K-8 campuses – 3 middle schools (6-8)

What is Transitional Kindergarten?

  • Same calendar and similar schedule as Kindergarten
  • For the 2019-2020 school year, if a child turns 5:
  • On or before September 1, 2019: Kindergarten
  • September 2 – December 2, 2019: TK
  • On or after December 3, 2019: not eligible for K or TK

  • Current TK classes are located at: Audubon, Baywood, Brewer Island,

Foster City, George Hall, Highlands, Laurel, LEAD, Meadow Heights, Parkside Montessori (transfer lottery only), San Mateo Park, Sunnybrae

  • TK students are eligible to attend the Annex Program
  • Same registration and transfer process as Kindergarten

Age Requirements - Eligibility (Handbook page 4)

  • Students are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten if their 5th birthday is
  • n or before September 1, 2019
  • Students are eligible to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten if their

5th birthday falls on or between September 2 – December 2, 2019

  • Students who turn 5 on December 3 or after, are not eligible to enter

Kindergarten or TK this school year - they will enter in 2020-2021 – Ed Code, no exceptions

STEP 1: School of Assignment

STEP 1: Determine your child’s school of assignment

  • To find your child’s school of assignment:

www.smfcsd.net → Registration & Enrollment → School Assignments

  • All students in the District are assigned to a school based on

their address of residency.

Step 2: Registration Documents

STEP 2: Collect all required registration documents

  • Required registration documents must be complete and

up-to-date in order to be accepted by the school office

Registration Documents

REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS (Handbook pages 5 & 6)

  • Child’s original birth certificate or passport
  • Child's original, up-to-date immunization record - www.ShotsForSchool.org
  • Child's original Report of Health Examination for School Entry (encouraged at Kindergarten but not

required until 1st grade)

  • Parent identification - driver license or other photo I.D.
  • Proof of Residency Group One (select one):

○ Current rental/lease agreement listing the parent/guardian name, student name(s), and name of property manager/owner and telephone number ○ Current property tax bill ○ Current homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy ○ State or federal tax return with a W-2 attached (please remove social security number and income information from these documents before submitting) ○ Payroll/check stub with name and address

  • Proof of Residency Group Two (select one):

○ Current utility bill (e.g. PG&E, telephone, water, garbage, or cable TV), must be dated within the past 60 days. New residents will have 30 days following registration to bring in a utility bill.

Step 3: Document and Address Verification

STEP 3: Bring all required registration documents to the school of assignment for document and address verification

  • The new student registration process begins with document and

address verification at your child’s school of assignment in November

  • Be sure to check the school of assignment’s website for their

scheduled document verification dates/times

  • Present originals of the registration documents as well as one set of

copies if possible to the school of assignment

Step 4: Snapcode

STEP 4: Obtain a 15-character snapcode from the school

  • f assignment after document and address verification
  • Parents/guardians will receive a unique 15-character code, called

a snapcode, after their registration documents have been verified by school office staff

  • Parents/guardians will use their snapcode to access and complete

the PowerSchool online registration form.

  • Please note: the snapcode is unique to each child, and it is the

expectation that all families are responsible for recording and remembering their child’s snapcode.

Step 5: Online Registration

Step 5: Fill out and submit the PowerSchool online registration form to complete the registration process

  • The PowerSchool online registration form opens on Monday,

December 3, 2018 at 12:00 pm (noon) – This is the first day online registration is available

  • The priority registration window is between December 3 (noon) and

December 20, 2018 (4:00 pm)

Online Registration

  • You will enter your child’s unique 15-character snapcode to log into

PowerSchool, create a PowerSchool account, and complete and submit your child’s registration.

  • Tips:

– Create an email account well before the online registration window opens if you do not have one already. – You will need to create a PowerSchool account after entering your child’s snapcode into PowerSchool.

  • You must have your own email account in order to create a PowerSchool

account. – Hold your cell phone or tablet in landscape to access and fill-out the form. – Read the directions, follow the order of the questions, take your time!

Online Registration

  • Registration is considered complete only after you

have entered and submitted all information into PowerSchool.

  • You will receive an email confirming the PowerSchool
  • nline registration form was submitted.

Transfer Requests

  • Transfer request applications are completed through the

PowerSchool online transfer form.

  • Parents/guardians new to the district can request a transfer after

the online registration is submitted. – Transfer request form is available on the Submission Confirmation page after submitting the registration

  • Parents/guardians may apply for up to 2 schools of choice.
  • All transfer requests received before the deadline of 4:00 pm on

December 20, 2018 will be entered into the school/program lottery.

  • Applications received after the deadline will automatically be placed
  • n the transfer request list in the order received.

Transfer Requests

When entering the transfer requests:

  • Select the schools in order of preference--the choices are

weighted in the lottery.

  • Do not select the school of assignment as one of the choices.
  • A 2nd school choice is not required.
  • You will receive an email confirming that the transfer request

was submitted.

Transfer Requests

  • All families that wish to apply for a transfer request MUST

FIRST REGISTER their child at the school of assignment

  • A transfer request is not a school registration and is not

a guarantee of enrollment.

  • Parents/guardians will be contacted by the Enrollment

Department only if the transfer request has been granted.

  • The last day to apply for a transfer for the 2019-2020

school year is 10 school days before the first day of school.

Transfer Requests

  • Plan to attend the school of assignment unless you receive

communication that the transfer has been granted. ○ E-mail communication ○ Check the spam folder

  • IMPORTANT: transfer requests are granted only if there is

room in the school and grade level requested.

  • All transfer requests expire on the first day of school.

Transfers will not be granted after that day.

Registration FYIs

  • Online utility billing statements may be printed and

submitted for the Group Two requirement

  • Students must be physically living with their

parents/guardians within District boundaries at the time of registration.

  • New student registrations are continuously accepted by the

school sites after December 20, 2018. Those registrations are submitted after the priority registration period has ended.

  • The PowerSchool online registration form and transfer form

are available in Spanish

Transfer Request Process FYIs

  • Transfer requests are requests, not guarantees of enrollment

– For example, a family can remain #1 on a transfer request list until the list expires if there is no room in the school/grade requested

  • We do not predict the odds/chances of a transfer being granted
  • E-mail communication is sent only to offer a transfer; there are

no updates sent during the year regarding transfer request status

  • District-wide magnet programs (Montessori, Mandarin

Immersion, Spanish Immersion), fill only by transfer requests--they do not have an assigned attendance area

  • Transfer request priorities are available on the District website

  • College Park’s schedule of School Information Meetings has
  • changed. Please check the College Park website for the updated

schedule.

  • Parents/guardians of children currently in a District preschool

program: – Students in a District preschool program must register for K/TK – You received a Kindergarten/TK assignment letter earlier this month (Oct. 2018) and there are a small handful of school assignments that were incorrect.

  • Please double-check your child’s school of assignment on the

District’s School Assignments page
