WHAT IS A BOND ELECTION?
STEPHENVILLE ISD BOND HISTORY
- SISD’s last bond election: 2012
- Voters approved $24 million with an anticipated 12 cent increase
- Due to the Central and Chamberlin renovations coming in under budget, the tax rate
was ultimately only increased by 6.5 cents
- The SISD Board of Trustees will only raise the I&S tax rate as necessary up to 10.8
cents based on the final costs of the 2018 proposed bond projects.

Maintenance and Operations (M&O)
- The Annual District Budget is passed by the Board of
Trustees.
- Day-to-day operations such as salaries, utilities,
repairs, supplies, etc.
- 75.03% of the District’s M&O budget goes to
payroll.
Interest and Sinking (I&S)
- I&S funds may only be used to repay debt issued for items
such as new construction, renovations, roofing, HVAC, etc.
- Cannot be used for salaries, utilities, or other day-to-day
expenses.
- Bond elections affect the I&S portion of a school district’s
tax rate.

HOMEOWNERS AGE 65 & OVER
- Stephenville ISD property taxes for citizens age 65 or older would not
be affected by the bond election.
- Under state law, the dollar amount of school taxes imposed on the
residence homestead of a person 65 years of age or older cannot be increased above the amount paid in the first year after the person turned 65 unless significant improvements are made to the home.
- Over 65 Homestead Exemption Application must be filed with local
appraisal district.

WHO CAN VOTE?
Must be a registered voter who resides within the school district boundaries. The final day to register to vote is Thursday, April 5, 2018. Voter registration forms are available at every campus.
