On February 16, the Joshua ISD Board of Trustees unanimously called for a $50,000,000 bond election for May 9, 2015. The projects in the proposed bond package include an additional middle school to accommodate current and future growth, increases safety & security district-wide, and addresses other district improvements.

What is a Bond Election?
- A bond election gives individuals an opportunity to vote
- n paying for the construction and renovation of school
- facilities. It is a request to give the elected Board of
Trustees the authority to sell bonds when facilities are needed.
- If authorized at a bond election, proceeds from a bond
issue can be used for the construction, improvement and renovation of school facilities (including equipment), the acquisition of land and the purchase of school buses.
- It CANNOT be used as part of the general operating
budget, or for teacher salaries.

- There are over 1,186,258 square feet of education
facilities spread across 10 sites with approximately 22 separate structures. Current student population is 5,052.
- The average age of JISD facilities is 26.5 years built
between 1948 and 2012.
- The assessment identified needed improvements to
existing JISD educational facilities
- These findings were presented to the Strategic Bond
Planning Committee for prioritization

this bond is anticipated to be a $0.15 increase to the I&S portion, resulting in a maximum total tax rate of $1.57
- For a taxable home value of $115,000, this
represents an increase of about $12.50 per month
- This estimate is calculated on the district’s 2014–15
taxable assessed valuation and assumes zero
- growth. Therefore, if the district grows, the tax
impact will be less

Homeowners Age 65 and Over
Under state law, the dollar amount of school taxes imposed on the residence homestead
- f a person 65 years of age or older cannot
be increased above the amount paid in the first year after the person turned 65 – regardless of changes in tax rate or property value – unless there are new improvements to the homestead that increase the value of the home.
