The first counseling presentation discussed how to:  Visit the counseling office and meet with your counselor at CVHS.  Understand CVHS graduation requirements and 4 year university entrance requirements (commonly called “a - g”).  Get academic help, understand the academic grading calendar, calculate your credits and how to calculate your G.P.A.  Explore the importance of being balanced instead of feeling unbalanced or overwhelmed.  Be involved on and off campus with balance.

You might decide to…  Attend Community College.  Attend a 4 year college or University.  Attend a trade, technical, vocational, or art school to learn a specific set of skills.  Join the military.  Get a job and enter the workforce.  Take a gap year.  Wait to decide until after graduation.

You will receive a Career-focused education. • Save $$$$ An AA degree costs approx. $1200. per year, tuition and fees. • If you decide to transfer to a UC, preference is given to transfers from California Community Colleges. The average transfer G.P.A. is 3.40

  12. CSU’s =23 campuses within California • Requirements: 2.0 G.P.A., meet the a-g requirements, take the SAT or ACT, meet the eligibility index. • The focus is on practical application of knowledge. • The average yearly expense, including living expense is $25,000.

  13. UC = 9 campuses within California • Requirements: 3.0 G.P.A., meet the a-g requirements, take the SAT/ACT with essay. • The focus is more research based. • The average yearly expense, including living expenses is $34,700.

What are you good at?  Talk to family and friends about their careers and what they like and don’t like about their choices.
