  2. Curriculum Overview • We use the IPC to plan units of work. • We tailor and adapt the IPC to suit the needs of each class. • We check on coverage of the curriculum. • We have developed new assessment processes recently.

The Arts in EYFS • Art – Being Imaginative, Exploring Media and Materials. • Music - Being Imaginative, Exploring Media and Materials. • Physical Education – Moving and Handling, Health and Self-Care. • Creative Arts – Speaking, Listening and Attention, Reading, Writing, Managing Feelings and Behaviour.

Music – Recent changes, curriculum and teaching standards • Introduction of a new Music Express scheme to support the teaching of music. • Introduction of a new assessment procedure which tracks development of specific skills. This year is rhythm and beat. • Coaching of staff to develop and monitor standards in music. Working with 4 members of staff. • Outcomes for Music in 2015-2016 : Year 1 – 99% working at or above NE Year 2 – 100% Year 3 – 97% Year 4 – 96% Year 5 – 98% Year 6 – 97%

Music – Resources and budget • Recent audit and reorganisation of resources in the music room • Continuing to work with local schools and funding organisations (Outer North West Communities Funding Team, Artforms) to support the Groove Generation Project • Employing 3 music practitioners on the Groove Generation Project

PE – Recent changes, curriculum and teaching standards • Implemented the new REAL PE scheme to improve coverage of the new National Curriculum and encourage better development of the fundamental movement skills (Agility, Balance & Coordination). This has been noted in observations. • A new assessment structure, involving audio-visual files being taken and specific skills being observed. • Themed weeks (e.g. Health week where the whole school did Zumba / whole school walked a mile). • Outcomes for PE in 2015-2016 : Year 1 – 95.6% Year 2 – 96.7% Year 3 – 95.0% Year 4 – 89.6% Year 5 – 100.0% Year 6 – 100.0%

Challenge Days Previous examples: • Arts and RE Phoenix dance theatre worked with 90 children to produce a dance incorporating ‘The Elements’ of Earth, fire and water, which they then performed to the whole school. • Music and PE Indian dancing where a group of professional dancers taught a select group of children, who then performed to the whole school. Coming up: • Motivational art project for the whole school – ‘Until you spread your wings, you’ll never be able to fly. ’

Links with other schools • Lead school for the Groove Generation project, with 7 local schools • Running and organising tournament at St. Mary’s with 8 local schools • Running and organising netball matches with local schools • Aireborough Learning Partnership Network Meetings (hosting and attending) • Running and organising football matches with local schools
