Post High School Plans

  • Make sure you know or have an idea of

what you are planning to do

 4yr, 2yr, Military, Apprenticeship, Vocational/Trade school

You should be having a conversation with your parents/guardian about what you want to do versus what you can/should do including the expense of your plans

slide-5
SLIDE 5

Where do you want to be?

Have an idea of what schools you want to apply to: Cast the application net wide! Reach Schools - Based on the average Freshmen admit data, this may be a stretch depending on your grades, etc. Good Matches – This fits well with your grades, test scores, preferences, etc. Safety Schools – Pretty sure you can get in, but it may not be your 1st choice

Academic Preparation Video for CSU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImFBNjqHmKA

 All CSU campuses now use Multiple Measures to determine

placement into English and mathematics courses for first- time freshman. Those measures include: Assessment Tests (CAASPP-EAP, ACT, SAT, AP Exams),High School GPA (Weighted GPA and Math GPA), High School coursework (approved senior year-long courses in English and mathematics), and College courses

 Based on these measurements, you may or may not have

to participate in Early Start program

slide-9
SLIDE 9

THOSE WHO MUST PARTICIPATE IN EARLY START PROGRAM:

 Costs $182/credit and may need 3 credits  Financial Aid Recipients may get a fee waiver for this  Can not register for CSU classes without this program  NEW: All credits are college bearing credits which will be used toward your General Ed requirement.

 Once admitted and you choose a campus to attend, the Early start information will be on your portal  Then, the campus you are attending will communicate with the campus where you are taking the class and that campus will send you an email so you can register the class(es) you need

Private Universities (In and Out of State)

 You must research and gather information on each

individual school for their admission process, dates/deadlines, requirements, WUE Scholarship, etc.

 There are over 450 private colleges that use the common

application at www.commonapp.org

 Most will need an essay and/or personal statement on

why you wish to apply to be a student at their campus

 Most will need a letter(s) of recommendation  Make sure you have Counselor’s correct email

addresses!!! tschaffran@tracylc.net or lmoore@tracylc.net

 We need a fact sheet on you to complete our

recommendation

 For all high school transcript requests to be mailed, you

need to fill out a request form and bring a blank envelope with stamp for us to mail.

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Community Colleges / Vocational Trade School

 Community college is COLLEGE!  Planning to Transfer? Ask a community

college TAG or AA-T or AS-T

 SATs and ACT is not required  Your current high school classes and grades

matter since there are no longer placement tests required!

 Delta College Day in the Spring semester for

students wanting to apply for Summer or Fall 2020 admission (usually in March/April)

slide-15
SLIDE 15

College as a graduate to have the College Early Start “hold” released on their account

 NEW – Free Tuition at some CA Community

Colleges up to 2 years for those who do not qualify for other financial aid – reimbursement situation at most campuses

 Community College vs. trade school

Cost/Benefits to consider

Community Colleges / Vocational Trade School

slide-16
SLIDE 16

 A “fact” or “Brag” sheet is required for

counselors and teachers to help write a letter

  • f recommendation for you.

 Some private universities and scholarships

will ask for this. Not needed for CSU’s and UC’s. Only UC Berkeley may randomly ask for more information in their selection process.

 Need to give at least two weeks for a well

written letter to be produced.

 Make sure to ask before you put down a
