  8. Academic Preparation Video for CSU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImFBNjqHmKA  All CSU campuses now use Multiple Measures to determine placement into English and mathematics courses for first-time freshman. Those measures include:  Assessment Tests (CAASPP-EAP, ACT, SAT, AP Exams) , High School GPA (Weighted GPA and Math GPA) , High School coursework (approved senior year- long courses in English and mathematics), and College courses

  12.  COUNSELOR’S STATEMENT for UC APPLICATION: Millennium High School does not offer AP , IB, or Honors courses. Rather, we encourage students on track to graduate to take classes at a local community college through a reduced schedule in their junior and senior year and full tuition reimbursement for successfully completed coursework. Juniors and seniors take a minimum of four courses which can include college classes. Students earn 5 credits for passing each semester course at Millennium, and 10 elective credits for each community college course successfully completed.

  13. Private Universities (In and Out of State)  You must research and gather information on each individual school for their admission process, dates/deadlines, requirements, etc.  There are over 450 private colleges that use the common application at www.commonapp.org  Most will need an essay and/or personal statement on why you wish to apply to be a student at their campus  Most will need a letter(s) of recommendation  Make sure you have Counselor’s correct email addresses!!! tschaffran@tracylc.net

  14. Community Colleges / Vocational Trade School  Community college is COLLEGE!  Planning to Transfer? Ask a community college TAG or AA-T or AS-T  SATs and ACT is not required, instead there is a placement exam to help determine your ability level for class selection  There will be a meeting next Spring semester for students wanting to apply for Summer or Fall 2019 admission (usually in March/April)  Counseling office will send ALL final graduate transcripts to Delta College in June.  All graduates need to “reapply” for Delta College as a graduate to have the College Early Start “hold” released on their account  Community College vs. trade school Cost/Benefits to consider

  15. Letters of Recommendation Requests  A “fact” or “Brag” sheet is required for counselors and teachers to help write a letter of recommendation for you.  Some private universities and scholarships will ask for this. Not needed for CSU’s and UC’s. Only UC Berkeley may randomly ask for more information in their selection process.  Need to give at least two weeks for a well written letter to be produced.  Make sure to ask before you put down a teacher or counselor’s name for a recommendation
