A quick snapshot of the topics from questions asked on the night

Selections and reserves-

6 primary selections should be made. They should reflect the ideal program for your child. Two reserves are asked for in the event there are clashes in the

  • timetable. The reserves should be

made towards a students pathway. ie. ATAR students should select ATAR

  • courses. General students should

select a General and a Certificate course.

What if my child wants to leave at the end of Year 10?

To leave a Notice of Arrangements must be in place to monitor that the student is in full-time work, training or

  • education. It is still best to go through

the course selection process as we have to monitor your child until the end of

  • 2020. If the work or training falls

through for any reason your child will need to return to school.

Why does Kalamunda recommend doing a Certificate course in an ATAR program?

This is to create a back up in the event there is a change of pathway during Year 11 or the start of Year 12. Most Certificate courses run over two years and are difficult to catch up on.

If my child applies to TAFE do they have to take the place

  • ffered?

No there is no obligation to take a position at TAFE if it is offered. We recommend still completing your course selections to create the best pathway at school as a back up to acceptance of your application or place in TAFE.

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Thank you for your attendance

My child hasn’t passed their OLNA should they select Foundation English and/ or Maths?

Students who are category 1 should select the matching Foundation course- reading/ writing – English, Numeracy –

  • Maths. Category 2 students can select

either Foundation or General, there is

  • pportunity to change course if they

pass their OLNA.

My child is currently completing a Certificate II in Applied languages will this count towards WACE?

The Certificate in Applied languages does NOT meet the minimum of 1 Certificate II requirement of the WACE General pathway, however it DOES contribute towards both the unit requirement and achievement requirement
