  2. T HANK YOU Thank you for working for the Union County Board of Elections to ensure a fair and transparent election by implementing the rules and regulations governing elections in New Jersey.

  3. T RAINING C LASS S IGN I N  Training Class is mandatory for first time Poll Workers.  All Poll Workers are required to attend one Training Class every two years.  Training is Mandatory for COVID-19 Primary Election Poll Workers!  When attending Training Class you must sign in to receive credit. Please send a note in the question section of the www.ucnj.org/pollworker website with your name and address so we know you attended. You may also email pollworker@ucnj.org. I F YOU DO NOT SIGN IN  You will not be given credit for attending.  If you were required to attend, and did not, $50.00 will be deducted from your check.

  5. P OLL W ORKER D UTIES Your duties as a Poll Worker include:  Opening & Successfully using the Voting Machine  Opening the polls on time  Determining who may vote  Keeping order  Closing the polls  Completing official documents & returning supplies  Be a productive team member!

  6. T HINGS TO R EMEMBER Report to polling place by 5:15am  Polls open promptly at 6:00am. Use a cell phone for most accurate  time If you are late or the polls open late, your pay will be reduced  If you are sick or cannot report to your polling place, notify the  Election Board right away by calling 908-527-4120 As an extension of the Board of Elections, you shall present  yourself in a professional manner, limit cell phone use to emergencies and break times and complete and sign all forms. Break Times: 1 hour meal break staggered among the workers to  be taken before 5pm. No more than one worker on break at a time. Small breaks permitted throughout the day. Sign in and out at lunch time. A majority of the board is required to be present at all times. No food or drinks shall be near voting machines or materials. 

  7. VOTE!  Don’t forget to vote!  You are encouraged to vote at every election.  If you are assigned to a district where you do not vote, you should use a Mail in Ballot. Ballots are available at the County Clerk’s Offices in both Elizabeth and Westfield up until 3pm the day before the election.  If your polling place is nearby, you may vote on your one hour meal break.

  8. W HAT ’ S N EW ? COVID-19 = C ONFUSION Poll Workers may NOT accept ballots!!! Post Marked on Election Day  Deliver to the Union County BOE, Elizabeth, NJ by 8pm  Deliver to a ballot drop box location by 8pm  – Cranford – Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue – Elizabeth – Union County Administration Building, 10 Elizabethtown Plaza – Plainfield – Plainfield Municipal Building Parking Lot, 515 Watchung Way – Union – Union Township Municipal Building Rear Entrance, 1976 Morris Avenue – Westfield – Fraser Building, 300 North Avenue East

  9. THE VOTING MACHINE • Yes, the machine needs to be set up. • Please use the reference materials inside your binder for the step by step instructions to turn on the machine. • Any questions, please call the office at 908-527-4123.

  10. US D EPARTMENT OF J USTICE ADA C OMPLIANCE  The US Department of Justice will be conducting site surveys on Election Day. They have been provided letters from our office and badges. They will be making sure our polling places are ADA compliant.  All poll workers and master poll worker must sign the Compliance Checklist. US D EPARTMENT OF J USTICE B ILINGUAL A WARENESS  The US DOJ will be monitoring our polling places for bilingual awareness. They have been provided letters and badges.  The poll workers may be asked questions about how to assist a Spanish-speaking voter.  When you visit your polling places, please make the poll workers aware that the DOJ will be visiting for this purpose.

  11. W HAT ’ S N EW ? ADA C OMPLIANCE ADA Compliance Checklist (Blue Folder): 1 per Polling Place. Must be filled out by Poll Workers and checked by Master Poll Worker

  12. W HAT ’ S N EW ? I MPROVING C OMMUNICATION WITH O UR P OLL W ORKERS • Everbridge is the system the County uses for First Alert. We worked with Public Information to develop a group specifically for Poll Workers. • We can communicate using Text Messages, Email Messages and Phone Messages. • We will only use this for official communication from the office and will not share contact information with an outside office or company. • Messages include mailing of assignments, posting of training dates and reminder of paycheck pick up dates.

  13. W HAT ’ S N EW ? COVID-19 = C ONFUSION SUPPLY BAG DELIVERIES The Municipal Clerks are coordinating the delivery of the supply bags to and from the polling locations! THEY ARE VERY, VERY HEAVY! No Poll Worker Pick Ups or Drop Offs!!!!

COVID-19 = C ONFUSION Executive Order 144 – 2020 Primary Election  Consolidated Polling Places: 87 Locations / 89 Tables  Every Dem and Rep will automatically receive a VBM  Every UNA will automatically receive a VBM Application  Only Paper Provisional Ballot Voting at the Polls  Only disabled voters can use the voting machine

S OCIALLY D ISTANCING THE D ISTRICT & PPE  Socially distance one poll worker per table  Socially distance the provisional ballot voting privacy screens  Every voter gets their own pen  PPE – per Poll Worker:  One Mask  One Face shield  1 small hand sanitizer  4 pairs of gloves  For Voters: Disinfectant Wipes and Hand Sanitizer  300 pens (1 per voter!)

  22. S UPPLY B AG  There is one Supply Bag per LOCATION.  Each bag will have the American Flag and the ADA Folder.  Supply bags will be delivered to and picked up from you at the polling location. Do not leave until the bag is picked up!!

  25. P OSTING V OTE T OTALS  Post near the entrance of the polling place. Write in the Town, Ward, if applicable, and  District in the top line. Number of votes must be completed every 2  hours: Machine Votes + Provisional Votes = Cumulative Total . The machine vote or public count is found  on the bottom left hand side of the screen. Do not handle the Provisional Ballots  throughout the day. As a Provisional Ballot is voted and returned, keep a hash mark count and then transfer to the poster.
