James Phillips: NLD Young Match Officials Programme Lead My role within NLD is to work with Clubs, the Referees Society and RFU to make sure there is a suitable network for support and opportunities for young people refereeing within the 3 counties. Andrew Smith: NLD RFU Refs Society Young Match Official Rep To work within the Society to ensure that any YMOs are offered suitable support & mentoring.
• In 2016 England Rugby launched the Young Match Official (YMO) programme to encourage more young people aged 14-24 to get into rugby officiating. • 2 different referee courses: L1 and L2. • The NLD RFU YMO programme provides qualification opportunities in partnership with the RFU, allowing for the development of skills, experience and knowledge. • In the last 12 months there are 106 newly qualified young referees within the 3 counties.
