For My Valentine – background

  • Every year approximately 3500 people are killed in road crashes countrywide with

many more seriously injured

  • A disproportionate number of crashes involve the 17 -25 age group with inappropriate

speed being a significant factor in these

  • In Rotherham this age group forms 9.6% of the population but in last 3 years made up

40% of the number of people killed and seriously injured

  • This age group is difficult to reach having left school and being in a position to drive
  • Poster campaign devised to try and increase young driver awareness about the

dangers of travelling at inappropriate speed and reduce their chance of being involved in a crash

The poster campaign

  • Design of the posters directed towards young drivers with various hard hitting

messages

  • Posters are to be A4 sized fastened to street lights
  • Places where young people frequent on a regular basis will be targeted
  • These include areas of the town centre together with the centres of Dinnington,

Maltby, Swinton and Wath

  • A number of sites near secondary schools and colleges will also be targeted
  • Campaign will be run 3 times per year to ensure the message is maintained
  • First campaign aimed at Valentines Day hence the ‘For My Valentine’ theme
