  1. PRINCE HENRY’S HIGH SCHOOL An 'Outstanding' Academy for Students aged 13-18 SIXTH FORM INFORMATION EVENING

  2. Aims of the Presentation To introduce: a) the Sixth Form Team b) the courses we offer at PHHS c) life in the Sixth Form d) the application and induction process

  3. Our vision: An inclusive, welcoming Sixth Form which provides a challenging and enjoyable experience for the young people in our care to enable them to secure outcomes which exceed their expectations .

  5. Why Prince Henry’s Sixth Form? Ofsted 2013: “The Sixth Form is outstanding and students make excellent progress on their AS-level and A-level courses. 7. Changes to A levels In the past, A Levels were divided into two parts each containing two units: the first set of two/three units made up the AS which was a) examined at the end of the first year of an A Level course (Year 12); the second set of two/three units made up the A2 which b) was examined at the end of the second year (Year 13). AS counted as 50% of the A2/A Level and attracted 50% of UCAS points for university entry.

  8. Changes introduced from September 2015 ● AS and A Levels have been ‘decoupled’, this means that AS levels still exist as a separate qualification but only count as 40% of a whole A level. ● A full A level is a two year course taught in a linear fashion with almost all of the assessment at the end of two years. ● The expectation from universities and employers is that students will have 3 full A levels at the end of Year 13.

  9. Our Offer ● Our main programme will consist of 3 A levels and a programme of Enrichment ● Universities make offers based upon 3 A level grades and the top universities have said that they value higher grades over an additional subject ● Exceptional students may be able to embark upon a 4 A level programme in consultation with the Head of Sixth Form, if they have achieved at least 6 As at GCSE with an A* in the 4 subjects chosen ● Further Maths will continue to run giving some students a fourth A level option.
