Career Cruising Instructions for Registration 2015-16.

Course Planner Features: The Course Planner allows you to view and change your high school education plan by recording the courses you have taken, are taking, and plan to take in the future. With help from your counselor or teacher, this education plan will help you organize your courses to meet your career and post-secondary education goals. Part 1: How to Access Career Cruising and Course Planner: Step 1. Go to your district and/or school website and click on the Career Cruising link or straight to careercruising.com . Step 2 The Login will appear at the top of the page. User name : lisd-last initial first initial ID# Password: mmddyyyy (your 8 digit birth date ex: April 10, 1996= 04101996) Or use the new password you created. The change in the password is important as Career Cruising now contains confidential information similar to your transcript, grades and credits. Step 3. Once you are logged in, you will be on the Portfolio Homepage. Go to My Account at the top right. Click on the drop down arrow and select Profile .Here, you can begin the process of setting up your Portfolio Profile. Your Portfolio is the place where you can save the careers and post-secondary education

and are interested in pursuing . VERY IMPORTANT!!! Update your correct email (one you check regularly), so that if you forget your password it can be emailed to

• you. Click on My Account in the upper Rt. corner. Edit Profile and make sure your email address is correct. Go to your name at the

top left and click on the drop down arrow and choose My Course Plan. Across the top you will see Share My Plan, click on this and share with your Parent/Guardian, by typing in your parents email. Part 2: Click on the drop down options under your name on the left; Click My Course Plan on the left. USE YOUR COURSE PREFERENCE CARD that you have completed for the actual entry of course selections in My Course Plan. Step 1 .The upcoming school year is highlighted with a dashed blue box . This is where you will select the courses that you want to take next year. ! Remember that this is YOUR Portfolio, so you can select and remove courses as many times as you like until you SUBMIT your course selections for next year. When you SUBMIT, your selections are locked and you and your parent/guardian will sign the printable Sign Off Sheet. You can view a draft copy Sign Off Sheet at any time by clicking on the printer icon at the top right on the My Course Plan tab. ! Your course history is also included in My Course Plan (your completed courses and the ones you are currently taking). ! Use your copy of the Course Description Guide or Click on the blue book icon at the top right of the My Course Plan tab to see the full Student Course Guide for your school. Step 2. To choose a required course (tan slot), click on the plus ‘+’ icon on the tan colored course slot. ! All courses available to you to fulfill the requirement are in a tan colored slot. Click any course to review the description and prerequisites for the course. ! To add a course to your My Course Plan, click on Add Course at the bottom of the page. You will return to the My Course Plan and the course you have chosen will appear. ! Continue until you have selected all your required courses. Step 3. To choose an elective course (white slot), click on the plus ‘+’ of any white course slot. ! When searching for an elective course, you may have several options. To view your options, select the first drop down box, you can select Discipline ,Cluster, Keyword, or CTE Pathways. The most common search option is to view by Discipline. After selecting to view by Discipline, use the second drop down box to view your discipline categories. Explore the other

Remember to visit the FM9 Counseling website for updated info!! ! Please remember to take this process seriously! Choose your courses wisely. Staffing is based on your course selections! ! Foreign Language should be taken back to back. (Foreign Languages DO count in your GPA) ! LOTE Option for Foundation High School Plan: Computer Science I and II. Please see Course Description Guide Addendum for more information. ! PAP, AP ENGLISH and some other PAP/AP classes require a summer project. ! Drill Team, Cheerleading, and External P.E. are NOT on the Course Request Card. Choose a full course load and indicate on both the Course Preference card and Course Planner Sheet what classes you will drop if you are chosen for one of these programs. External PE applications can be found on the FM 9 website. ! All students are required to take Art 1 before taking higher-level Art classes. ! Consult the Math and Science Flow Charts, (on the FM 9 website), for assistance!! Students taking any AP Science courses, please note the 9-week trailer course called AP Test Prep is a LOCAL credit course and does not count in the GPA or the 26 state credits needed for graduation. ! The following classes REQUIRE AN APPLICATION or Teacher Signature:

• All Yearbook Classes

2015-2016 SCHEDULE CORRECTION POLICY: Course Verifications will be distributed to all students in May. Any correction requests can be made with a parent signature, on the verification form, until May 11th. After that time, corrections will be made for one of the following reasons ONLY:

• 1. An error, such as a class you already have HS credit for, two classes in same period, shortage of classes,

sequencing problems, rescheduling failed classes, etc.

• 2. Level change to move into or out of a PAP/AP class before the first day of class in August, otherwise,

you must remain in the course for at least 3 weeks once class starts. At that time an order to level down the following criteria must be met:

• a. Parent, student, teacher conference has been conducted.
• b. Student grade is below a 75. (This grade will transfer to the regular level class).
• c. There is room available in the regular class. Choose wisely!!!
• 3. Placement issues, such as change of sport or not making a team.

NAME: ID#: GRADE: CURRENT COUNSELOR: The LISD Default Graduation Plan for all students entering high school 2014-2015 and beyond is the Foundation Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA). Students may be allowed to change to a different graduation plan AFTER completion of the 10th grade year, if appropriate.
