FUNDAMENTALS – An average player can become great with FUNDAMENTALS! Why fundamentals DO NOT improve:
- Players resist being coached
- Players not working at the
tempo required to improve
- Not enough repetition

- Players should not be a member of our football teams if they don’t have high expectations of themselves.
We, too, have high expectations for them. How they choose to conduct themselves, both publicly and privately, will reflect on their families, teammates, coaches and the entire Tomball community.
- Players are expected to represent the Patriot organization in a positive manner on the field and in the
- community. We have worked hard to create a first class organization that players, coaches and parents
are proud of.
- Players are expected to do well in school. If missing practice is required to stay on course with assistance
then let your coaches know. Your coaches will take a proactive approach to your academic success. PLAYER’S RESPONSIBILITY – The coaching staff expects and demands each player to:
- Play Hard
- Be Tough
- Know what you’re doing every play
- Help, encourage and support your teammates in a positive way during good times and bad.
- Practice and play with intensity, focus, persistence and determination in a self-disciplined effort to
become a better individual and team player. THE BIG GAME – As a member of the Tomball Patriots they will play in what we consider to be big games; rivalries that have existed for several years and games that will ultimately determine the champion of the
- AAYFDT. Keep in mind the following and NEVER lose focus.
- Why is it a big game? Because we have worked hard to get to that point and have made it a big game.
- How did we make it a big game? Because we win and 2 good teams are playing.
- How did we win? We followed the plan to win…GREAT FUNDAMENTALS
- How did we develop those fundamentals? Through practice and great work ethic
WINNING - We have a very clear objective within the Patriots organization. WIN in the classroom and WIN on the field. “Do you now know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.” Corinthians 9:24
- Winning is not complicated, people complicate it.
- PLAN TO WIN – Time tested and infallible
- Play great defense
- Take care of the football
- Score in the red zone
- Great special teams
Winning is fragile…It is not, however, by accident. There is no such thing as luck. Winning is a result of preparation, attitude and confidence. WINNING ATTITUDE VS. LOSING ATTITUDE
- WINNING ATTITUDE – even when you are losing you firmly believe you ran out of time. You expect to win
and you WILL eventually win.
- LOSING ATTITUDE – even when you are WINNING – you expect something bad to happen. There is a lack
- f confidence, and trust in your coaches and teammates.
- LOYALTY – There are plenty of negative forces in football. Remember that selfishness, envy and jealousy
can destroy a football team.
– Love and respect the game of football and what it stands for. – Love and respect your teammates – Love and respect your organization

The Tomball Patriots are dedicated to the development of competitive football players and this requires the enhancement of the competitive spirit and cooperation of the players and parents. While every player will have relatively equal PRACTICE time, it is the players who most help the team, at the coach’s discretion, who will get more playing time. 1. Each player will get a minimum amount of playing time/plays in games as per AAYFDT requirements. 2. Playing time is earned through hard work and dedication to improvement. 3. The amount of playing time an athlete receives is at the discretion of the coach. All of our coaches will strive to maintain athletic improvement and putting our kids first. 4. Players will accept terms of playing time. Equal playing time in games is NOT guaranteed nor required. GUIDE TO CONFLICT RESOLUTION If there is a question about playing time, coaching decisions, conduct, or anything regarding the Tomball Patriots, the player and parent should:
- Schedule a meeting with the team’s Athletic Director at an appropriate time. The team’s Athletic Director has the
right to request the presence of the organization’s Athletic Director.
- At no time is a parent/guardian/family member allowed to approach a coach at a game or during practice in
regards to any conflict they may have. The Tomball Patriots adhere to a 24 hour rule that requires at least 24 hours to pass from any perceived conflict before any resolution meeting can take place.
Parents are asked to refrain from coaching or otherwise distracting any player on the team including the coaching staff. Parents are also asked not to survey other parents about coaching decisions. Parents aren’t permitted to discuss coaching philosophies with the coaches during a game. If a parent is upset about something with the team, he/she should abide by the “24 Hour Rule” and wait 24 hours before discussing the matter with the coach. Every Patriots team will have a Team Mom. The team mom will make sure the coaches have everything needed from the team’s parents. The Team Mom will be responsible for ensuring that the coaches have a list of everyone’s contact information. Other then Patriot volunteers, no parent or siblings are allowed on the field during practice or a game.
02: MINIMUM PLAYS 01.05.02.01
- If the required number of practices have been attended, all football participants must participate
in a minimum number of plays as outlined in the chart below. There is no requirement that the plays be consecutive or spaced in any way throughout the game.
- Only participants who will be playing in the game will be counted in determining the number of plays required.
- If there are three practices, each participant must attend at least two in order to be eligible to play. Missing one practice in
consecutive weeks will result in the player being ineligible to play the following game. If a player is late to two practices in
- ne week, this will count as 1 missed practice for that player.
- If there are two practices, each participant must attend at least one in order to be eligible to play. If there is only one
practice, participants need not attend that practice to be eligible to play.
- A play is to be counted on all kickoffs and each time the ball is hiked and/or a down is counted, even though a penalty may
be called after the ball is hiked and the down may be repeated.
- If a penalty is called prior to the ball being hiked, no down or play is counted.
- An automatic forfeiture of a game will occur if the minimum plays are not met during regulation time of the game including
regular season, play-offs, and Super Bowl.
- The total playing time for Juniors and Seniors is four ten-minutes quarters, or 40 minutes.
- Only rubber, molded cleats are allowed. Screw in type cleats are prohibited.
- Listed below are the playing weights for the Current Season.
– An Impact player is defined as any Offensive player that lines up in an eligible position: I.E. Running Back, Quarterback, Receiver, and Tight End. A non-impact player is defined as an offensive player in a non-eligible position and all defensive players.
01.03.09 CONCUSSION PROTOCOL When a player has been diagnosed with a concussion and cleared by a physician, the following protocol must be completed before being allowed to participate in a scrimmage or game. * Day one – Light aerobic exercise to increase the heart rate: 5 to 10 min light jog
- r exercise bike.
* Day two – Continued aerobic activity: moderate jogging, brief running. * Day three – Heavy non-contact activity: sprints and non-contact football drills. * Day four – Player returns to a controlled football practice. * Day five – Full return. Note: This day can’t be a scrimmage or a game. Note: Each day must be completed without signs or symptoms occurring before continuing to the next day’s activity.
HYDRATE TO DOMINATE!
- Players should drink water
constantly throughout the day
- Each player should have a
water jug at practice
