Traffic

Riding a bicycle

• Basic rule: don’t bother others
• Bicycle path
• Right side of the road
• Use of white frontlight and red rearlight at

night /darkness

• Max. 2 persons next to each other
• All drivers coming from the right have priority

– unless you’re on a priority road:

• Lock your bike

Buying a bicycle

• Not on the street (accomplice/guilty)
• Use common sense
• In a bicycle shop

Riding a scooter

Bicycle

 In order to prevent traffic accidents, police officers

also regularly have traffic controls to make sure that cyclists follow traffic regulations. Examples of fines:

 Cycling through a red traffic light > € 95,-  Cycling in a pedestrian area > € 55,-  Cycling at night or in very bad weather without working

lights > € 55,-

 Cycling with a telephone or another device in your

hand > € 95,-



(A 9 euro administrative fee will be charged with each fine).



For example:



Littering on the street with, for example, cans, cigarettes and paper € 140,-



Urinating in residential and public areas € 140,-



Producing excess noise (music, shouting, etc) € 140,-



Smoking weed/use of drugs 18

Use of sofdrugs is tolerated - Max. 5 grams.



Buy weed: in coffeeshops + you have to be registered at the town hall.



Harddrugs: forbidden



Attention: weed high quality (THC): addiction (some students failed studies)



 It is no problem to drink alcohol but do it in

• moderation. (Drink responsible)

 Don’t go home alone  Watch your drink when you go out  Closing times

 2 am or 3am. (after 2am you can’t get in anymore: ‘one-way

traffic’)

 ‘Triple Blond’ (Bellamypark) and ‘Vrienden van Vlissingen’

(Nieuwedijk): 5am.
