Quick Summary –  You will create a travel brochure of four or more countries.  You will act as either a travel agent – where you SELL the vacation package

 You will act as the traveler – where you ASK specific questions to the agent, who in turn answers.  The end result is a dialogue.  This is two test grades. (1) brochure & (2) oral presentation – all in Spanish.

The Product: El folleto

  • 1. One brochure – you determine the size.
  • a. standard-sized poster (see examples in my room)
  • b. 8 ½ x 11 brochure (Publisher has a template)
  • c. NO foam boards or tri-folds
  • 2. Okay to use images off the Internet. MUST BE COLORFUL!
  • 3. You may TYPE your brochure information, but you must also turn in a hand-

written draft of everything.

  • 4. The font should be EASY TO READ.
  • a. Avoid fancy fonts = too hard to read. Part of your grade is the

aesthetic/quality of your work.

  • b. Keep it simple and attractive.
  • c. Include ALL required points on the brochure
  • 5. You must sell this as a vacation package.
  • a. The first rule of selling: know your target market.
  • b. Your customers are wealthy, bored and ready for adventure. Time

and money are no object.

The Presentation

 Sell a travel/vacation package.  Discuss 4+ countries from the packet

  • 6. ONLY Use only the countries in the packets, papers I have given you.
  • a. If it’s not on the list = don’t use it.

The Stuff That Has To Be On Your Brochure & Oral Pres.

Required Elements: - TODO en español

 nombre del país  nombre de la capital  idioma(s)  nacionalidad(es)  animales  gastronomía (type of food)  datos interesantes (see below) (3+)  atracciones interesantes (see below) (4+)

  • you MUST use bullet points (or similar)

  • For attractions: Use authentic names of rivers, lakes, mountains, etc.
  • i. Most names will translate. When not, be sure you AT LEAST

use these terms in Spanish:

 el Río… (river)  el Lago… (lake)  las Cordilleras… (mountain range)  las Montañas…  la Montaña…  el Valle… (valley)  el Volcán…  la Laguna… (lagoon)  las Ruinas…  las Pirámides…

You have a great deal of creative freedom on the presentation and brochure, but within the parameters of the lists I have given you. My wish is for you to (1) have fun and (2) speak lots of Spanish!

Singletons –

  • 1. You will sell the vacation package to your classmates (they are the

customers.)

  • a. You will act as the travel agent and they as the traveler.
  • b. You will speak for about 2-3 minutes, no less, in Spanish.
  • 2. I will provide a list of potential questions I and/or the audience may ask
  • you. There will be no surprises.

*Groups – maximum of 2 – no más

  • 3. The group will do a Q & A act.
  • a. One person acts as the travel agent
  • b. The other will be the traveler
  • c. You will be seated (or standing), and will face each other while you

converse.

  • 4. Traveler – you will ask specific question in Spanish. Use the list of

questions from the list and change them around to suit your needs.

  • 5. Travel Agent – you will extol the fun, adventure and safety of your

package(s). Be enthusiastic.

  • a. You will be able to answer the traveler’s questions as well as sell

your product.

  • b. Everyone will have an equal share in Q & A.
  • c. Quality, attitude, demeanor and pronunciation matters.
  • d. Your entire presentation should last about 2-3 minutes. No less, but

expect more.

*If you are in a group that will not work for you, get out of it ASAP. I will support your decision BUT do not wait. Also, PLEASE let me know right away. Everything will be kept confidential.

  • 6. Extra credit points awarded for business-casual attire on the day of your
  • presentation. (about 5%...)
  • a. no sneakers, leggings, jeans, flip-flops, t-shirts…
  • b. wear what you’d wear to an interview

Notecards? YES! But with caution!!!

  • 7. You may use NOTECARDS to list bullet points, not entire sentences – but

do NOT read from them. A quick glance is all you can do.

  • a. I deduct heavily for reading notecards. Please know your oral

presentation is an individual grade.

  • 8. Please be present! Absent students will have to make separate arrangements

with me that may affect the entire group. The Brochure is due Monday, 12/08 Presentations begin Monday, 12/08 + Dates may change depending on the testing calendar.
