OEA CAMPAIGN 2018 GOALS  Protect collective bargaining rights and public education through electoral victories;  Elevate the importance of public education as a main part of the 2018 electoral discourse;  Turnout OEA members and their Households in higher rate than in previous mid-term elections;  Increase OEA member participation in OEA-FCPE;

  5. ELECTORAL OBJECTIVES  Elect Richard Cordray as the next Governor of Ohio  Re-elect U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown  Elect Kathleen Clyde as the Secretary of State (Ohio Redistricting Commission Member)  Elect Zack Space as Auditor of State (Ohio Redistricting Commission Member)

  6. ELECTORAL OBJECTIVES  Elect Steve Dettelbach as Attorney General  Elect Rob Richardson as Treasurer of State  Elect Judge Michael Donnelly and Judge Melody Stewart to the Ohio Supreme Court,  Elect OEA endorsed candidates to the Ohio General Assembly, U.S. Congress, and State Board of Education  Endorsed candidates list may be found at:  https://www.ohea.org/2018_endorsed_candidates/

  7. COORDINATOR ROLE  Establish campaign network throughout local association and within leadership council;  Main point of contact (in collaboration with OEA Field Staff) with OEA Campaign 2018;  Recruits and assists in training of members to participate in OEA’s campaign activities (Me+3, Phone Banks, Canvasses, Social Media Actions, Hustle Campaigns);  Helps disseminate OEA campaign messaging;

  8. STAGES OF COORDINATOR’S WORK 1. Begin identifying network (use potential activists and membership lists); 2. Recruit participants and orient for Me+3 Program; 3. Encourage participants to provide campaign feedback; 4. Follow up with OEA Field Staff on progress, updates, or needed materials; 5. Recruit participants for Phone Bank, Canvass and GOTV activities;

  9. TACTICS • Engagement via Educators for Ohio Facebook Group • Social media and digital activism to continue through campaign Digital • Me+3 Program • Workplace conversations Back to School • Member to member canvassing (limited) • Member to member phones Volunteer

  10. TACTICS: DIGITAL ACTIVISM AND ORGANIZING  OEA Facebook Page – Educators for Ohio  OEA Action Center  Over one platform, allowing members to email, Facebook post, and text colleagues  Promoting legislative actions targeting key legislative priorities

  11. TACTICS: ME+3  Use relationships to organize colleagues and family members to:  Prioritize education as key factor in individual’s vote  Pledge to Vote for OEA’s Endorsed Candidates  Become FCPE Contributors (members only)  Volunteer for OEA Campaign 2018

TACTICS: ME+3 CONVERSATION  Step 1: Identify the Issue – Through conversations with your colleague/friend/family member, figure out the issues that they care most about leading up to the 2018 Election  Step 2: Connect the Issue to Support for Rich Cordray/Sherrod Brown – After identifying issue, connect it to why OEA is supporting Rich Cordray or Sherrod Brown;  Step 3: Sign The Pledge – Have them sign the hardcopy pledge card (then return to LRC) or online form if they pledge to vote for OEA’s Endorsed Candidates;  Step 4: Multiply – Walk one of your pledge takers through these steps and have them find their 3 to ask to take the pledge;  Step 5: Stay In Contact – When you hear about important asks, campaign activities, or breaking campaign news, please share with 3.

TACTICS: CANVASSING  Targeting members  Using MiniVAN for canvass lists  Weekend canvasses: Area Dates  Saturday 10:00 to Noon Shift Central OH Sept. 22 – 23  Sunday 1:30 to 3:30 Shift SW Ohio Sept. 29 – 30  Exploring option of weeknight NE Ohio Oct. 6 – 7 canvasses Central OH Oct. 13 – 14  Trainings will occur on MiniVAN tool NE Ohio Oct. 20 - 21

  15. TACTICS: PHONE BANKS  Phone Banks  Available starting end of September  OEA Action Center will contain virtual phone bank  OEA Dialer Phone Banks will be established in OEA’s and allied offices  Both types of phone banks accessible from home  Training webinars over the platform to come
