The organization started in 1998 as an interim structure called the Transitional National Development Trust (TNDT). Then in 2000 it became the National Development Agency. 2

Strengthen the institutional capacity of Civil Society Organizations for long-term sustainability Promote consultation, dialogue and sharing of developmental experiences Inform and influence government developmental policies Collaborate with stakeholders in the development field to develop a strategies for poverty eradication in South Africa. 3

To identify opportunities for the interventions to create ”islands of success” where potential players and best practices can be applied To improve internal processes of grant making, thereby optimising funding activities To develop and sustain partnerships and programmes of action To facilitate research that informs grant funding and decisions and policy 2. This goal seeks to understand the nature of poverty in South Africa, identify who the players are in fighting poverty and articulate what must be done in terms of crafting effective programmes and influencing policy. To establish and maintain a database of Civil Society Organisations To Identify targets for intervention and craft solutions To measure the impact of programme and shape learning knowledge 3. To build and sustain organisational capabilities It emphasises that the NDA must build capacity needed to deliver on its mandate and operate effectively and sound governance and agreed values To secure the right people and place them in the right jobs To entrench values and sound operating policies To promote effective business systems and governance 9

WHERE DOES NDA GET MONEY FROM PDF Created with deskPDF PDF Writer - Trial :: http://www.docudesk.com The NDA’s main source of funding is the South African Government Each year the NDA receives over R 100 million which increases by 6% each year Since inception the NDA has disbursed over R400 million 11

HOW DOES THE NDA FUNDING GET DISTRIBUTED PDF Created with deskPDF PDF Writer - Trial :: http://www.docudesk.com With limited resources that the NDA has, money gets distributed according to the information gathered by Statistics South Africa.Therefore the Provinces that are said to be poorest get the bigger share of the budget. Priority areas for the NDA form part of the Government’s priority areas. The focus for the NDA follow closely with what the President announced in his State of the Nation address. 12
