Chapter 12 – Prioritization
- Recall that Table 12‐1 summarizes approximately 60
recommended strategies throughout document for these topics:
- Responsible Planning
- Source Protection
- Drought Management
- Water Conservation
- Climate Change
- Funding
- Recall that the plan defers capital improvement projects for
further consideration by the WUCC
- Range of status from conceptual to preliminary design
- Document provides basis for future evaluation but defers cost
estimation/feasibility to individual utilities
Final Wording for Goals
Drought Management:
- Consider methods to improve timing of activation of drought
triggers and water use restrictions restriction measures
Final Wording for Recommendations
3. Explore and provide recommendations regarding Determine appropriate modifications to the definition of available water to allow for reasonable additive factors (contract maximums, supplemental sources, demand ratios from safe yield models, etc.) to be included when calculating MOS for MMADD 4. Explore and provide recommendations to streamline the sale of excess water permit process (such as a minimum threshold requirement) and eliminate the requirement in certain instances to foster regionalization
- 11. Revise water demand projections that may be out of date
- 29. Evaluate and provide recommendations regarding methods of improving
enforcement to prevent activities on private property that may lead to reservoir
- r aquifer contamination
- 48. Develop procedures and secure permits to promote the regional use of supplies
during short‐term planned and unplanned events resulting in loss of supply regional water supply response plans for regionally interconnected systems (e.g. Intra‐Regional Water Supply Response Plan for Southeastern Connecticut)

CIRCA Vulnerability Study
The University of Connecticut’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is conducting a survey of community water systems. The 15 minute survey is designed to understand how community water systems prepare for and respond to storms, droughts, and extreme events. Survey responses are confidential and will be aggregated to ensure anonymity. Your response to the survey ensures your system’s experience will be heard and will be represented in the Drinking Water Resilience Plan scheduled for release in fall 2018. Complete the survey before Friday, May 11, 2018 by entering this link into a browser: https://tinyurl.com/uconn‐CWS‐survey If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Galen Treuer at galen.treuer@uconn.edu or 612‐209‐1451 or the Project Lead Christine Kirchhoff at christine.kirchhoff@uconn.edu.
