UF/IFAS FACILITIES PLANNING AND OPERATIONS What is Plant Operations and Maintenance (PO&M)?

  • PO&M consists of two activities: Maintenance and Utilities.
  • The funds are generated when new space is added on campus.
  • Legislatively appropriated funds based upon type of facility; initiated in 1989.
  • PO&M funds are authorized for expenditures relating to the maintenance of

facilities and grounds.

  • IFAS PO&M Total - $3,778,325
  • Utilities - $2,169,249
  • Maintenance - $1,609,076
  • Maintenance distribution:
  • RECs/Departments/Units - $934,920
  • FP&O (campus) - $674,156

Why is Deferred Maintenance so extensive?

Building

30,000 GSF Laboratory/Office Building 1 acre site on main campus miles of fencing irrigation wells miles of graded roads acres of developed research plots 30,000 GSF Laboratory/Office Building 500 acre IFAS site 20 miles of fencing 4

  • 10" irrigation wells

4 miles of graded roads 300 acres of developed research plots PO&M funding does not account for research and teaching space that exists outside of buildings. There are unique conditions associated with IFAS' Land Grant Mission. Not only does IFAS operate and maintain state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, but also operates and maintains several thousand acres of animal facilities and agricultural research plots.

What do these two buildings have in common? They both receive the same amount of PO&M funding!
