Importance of learning a Second Language

  • Learning a foreign language boosts brain power.
  • A person’s ability to multi-task is developed.
  • Memory is improved.
  • The mind becomes more keen.
  • Polyglots are seen to display improved decision-making ability.
  • The first language is improved.
  • Performance in other academic areas is enhanced.
  • It makes a person more flexible and open to other cultures.

What is the World Language Academy?

  • It is a program where students can take Spanish or French

and receive High School credits in 7th and 8th grade in the selected language.

  • The WL academy will help you be part of the multicultural

society of today, being able to speak, listen, read and write Spanish or French.

  • If you are not zoned for Lakeview and want to be part of

the World Language Academy, you can. You would just have to provide your own transportation to the school.

  • Selection is trough School Choice and requirements

include to be at proficiency level in state assessments and at grade level in reading/math.

Lakeview’s World Language Academy is divided in:

  • no previous experience needed in

Spanish or French

  • Earn 2 high school credits by the end
  • f eighth grade.

Foreign Language Academy

  • Students with previous experience in

a dual language setting in the languages of Spanish and English.

  • Earn 3 high school credits and

possible college credits at the end of 8th grade.

How will the World Language Academy look for your 6th grader?

  • They will begin taking Introductory Spanish or French(

depending on the language chosen) and no previous experience is necessary, unless enrolling in the dual language academy.

  • The student will continue in the program until 8th grade and

receive their 1st Foreign language high school credit class in 7th grade (Spanish 1 or French 1) and in 8th grade (Spanish 2 or French 2).

  • They will have a cultural-language enrichment lab to expose

them as much as possible to the language that they selected

  • learning. This class is offered all three years within the program.

  • All H.S. credit courses will have mid terms and end of the year

course exam that will grant them the credit. EOC exams are provide by OCPS.

  • Each class is counted as an elective course every year.
  • Students and parents will sign a contract at registration with the

requirements and conditions of the program .

Power Hour Club starting at 7:30 am. (fee involved)

  • Teachers offer individual tutoring based on their

availability.

  • Boys and Girls club is a free after school program

where students participate in different activities and it is available until 6:00pm.

  • Club offerings happen before and after school.

  • Applications are due February 18th, 2018 at midnight.
  • All acceptance notification will be sent via email by the beginning of

March
