  • Even though the nomina4on aligns with Decision IX/6,

MBTOC con4nues to encourage the Party to review regula4ons and other hurdles that constrain the adop4on of

  • alterna4ves. This will ensure that together with R & D

presently under way a successful phase out plan can be implemented

  • MBTOC accepted the full amount, however there were con4nued concerns

about chloropicrin (Pic) being able to be used in MB/Pic mixtures but not when it is applied alone.

  • Further, the MB/Pic product has the same label warning about risk of

  • Both nomina4ons were reduced propor4onately to meet the standard

presump4ons for MB dosage rates used with barrier films over a three year adop4on period. A further 10% reduc4on was made for uptake of available alterna4ves.

  • Strawberries: The party is urged to consider prac4ces which improve the

likelihood of adop4on of available alterna4ves (ie 1,3-D/Pic).

  • Tomatoes: An increase in the nominated amount from the CUE approved

last year was not accepted.

Final recommendations for 2018: Reduced

(No change from the OEWG)

Mills: Nomination reduced to 2.9 t based on an adjustment in dosage rate and reduced treatment frequency which MBTOC considered would be effective. Houses: Nomination reduced to 42.75 t based on adoption of the use of heat, which was considered suitable for a portion of the nomination. Issues

  • MBTOC is aware of uses of MB for which no CUN is being

sought.

  • MBTOC feels that con4nued MB supply for CUNs is in itself

becoming a barrier for technological change and considera4on of alterna4ves.

  • China has indicated its inten4on for this to be the last year of

cri4cal use nomina4ons
