Information from a Neighbourhood Watch

Computer Scam A company phoned a member of the public stating they are monitoring their broadband connection and there is a fault. The company said that they are working with a phone company. They asked them to go onto a website and click a link, so someone could fix the problem. The member of the public works in IT and knew that they wanted to remotely access their pc. They refused to give any details over the phone or log onto the site and the company rang off. Their number is 08521 236 548 Do not give any personal details over the phone Contact your provider if you have any issues

ATM Distraction Thefts There have been thefts from cash machines where the victim has been distracted and their card removed, then funds taken out elsewhere.

Emerging Problem – Residential Burglary Thurlow Park Lambeth Borough

Inference: Residential burglary has noticeably

increased in Thurlow Park ward in the last 4 weeks.

Context: In the last two weeks there have been 12

residential burglaries with 8 in the previous fortnight. 7 of the last 12 have occurred after 1600 with 2

  • ccurring during the overnight period. The last 2

weeks has seen burglaries shift South in the ward. Entry methods vary.

Recommendations: Review the crimes in the highlighted area for any links. Encourage NHWs to be set up in the area Deliver the Burglary crime prevention kits and

  • ffer advice.

Window and door alarms to repeat/vulnerable victims.

Tactical Problem – Residential Burglary Ferndale Ward Lambeth Borough

Inference: Residential burglaries continue in Ferndale ward. The area is East and West of

Bedford Road and North of Acre Lane. This area is very prosperous and has either multi

  • ccupancies or house-shares. The main item type taken is laptops.

Context: Although burglaries have reduced from 8 to 6 in the last 2 weeks it is still a problem

for the ward. Offences are committed predominately daytime. Entry methods are varied. An

  • ffender will target a weakness more than using the same entry method. Communal doors in

multi occupancies tend to be shut on Yale lock only, these can easily be slipped. This prosperous area is adjacent to Acre Lane. Offences in this area have occurred through October and November and periodically throughout the year.

Recommendations:

Review the crimes in the highlighted area for any links. Overt mobile CCTV. Encourage NHWs to be set up in the area Deliver the Burglary crime prevention kits and offer advice. Window and door alarms to repeat/vulnerable victims.

Tactical Problem – Residential Burglary Streatham South Lambeth Borough

Inference: This area has experienced a high number of burglaries in the last 6 weeks.

The main area in the ward affected is West of Streatham High road.

Context: 7 burglaries have occurred in the last 2 weeks compared to 3 in the previous

  • fortnight. Recently there has been linked series of burglaries where houses with a porch and

front door and a high value car on the driveway, were targeted. This series has not occurred in the last 4 week period. As with most burglaries across the borough, entry methods vary considerably. The last 2 weeks has seen entries in Streatham South via open window, insecure door, Letterbox method (Daytime), Patio door smash and window smash. Offences in Streatham cluster in general have decreased considerably with the exception of the previous fortnight.

Recommendations: Overt mobile CCTV. Encourage NHWs to be set up in the area Deliver the Burglary crime prevention kits and offer advice Window and door alarms to repeat/vulnerable victims.

Emerging Problem – Street Crime Streatham High Road Lambeth Borough

Inference: Historic street crime problem area is re-emerging

  • n weekdays between 1200 – 20000hrs.

Context: In this area there has been 1 Commercial Robbery, 4

Personal Robberies and 3 Snatches. Offences occur on weekdays, mostly from 1200 – 2000hrs. The

  • ffences usually involve little or no violence,

Suspect descriptions range from 15 – 30yrs males. The victims were mostly aged between 25 – 40yrs, although there were two school age victims (12 and 13yrs).

Recommendations : Personal safety information to NHWs. Overt Mobile CCTV Streatham High Road. Patrols by ASBAT.

Tactical Problem – Street Crime in Stockwell

Inference: Personal Robbery and Snatch offences continue to take place within the vicinity of

Stockwell Underground Station. I Phones are still overwhelmingly the main property targeted. The main generator for this are the transport hubs.

Context: In the last two weeks there have been 6 Personal Robbery and 9 Snatch offences.

There has been a slight increase in the number of offences since the last PTAC meeting current taskings have made no impact on crime. Offences are still occurring throughout the week, but this time there was a significant increase in the early hours of Sunday morning up to 0700hrs (9 offences). I Phone 4's are still overwhelmingly the main property type targeted, and all the victims were alone. Increasing groups of youths have also been seen congregating around the skate park. Large groups are regularly seen around the Stockwell Gardens Estate. Offences in this area increased since July, except for a dip in October.

Recommendations: Continue with the previous taskings Crime prevention campaign. ASBAT North to patrol. Police Cadets to work with SNTs to give crime prevention advice to vulnerable victims leaving the tube station. NHW volunteers to work with SNTs to give crime prevention advice to vulnerable victims leaving the tube station.

Emerging Problem – Theft from MV Linked Series Lambeth Borough

Inference: There has been a recent increase in theft

from motor vehicles in Lambeth.

Context: The method is bending the doors of Peugeots back to enter the vehicle. There has been 8 recent thefts using this method in Most offences took place overnight and all vehicles were Peugeots.

There is a disused park area on Solon New Road which had been locked by Lambeth Council due to drug taking. The lock has been removed and groups of people throughout the day are using the area to take drugs. It is believed that prostitutes also frequent the area At the junction with Kepler Road there is another small park area which is

  • pen to the public. Another group is using this area to take drugs.

Clapham Common

Graffiti has recently appeared in the stairwells of BRADY HOUSE and COMINS HOUSE, Notre Dame Estate. Graffiti has been written on numerous surfaces within the stairwell of Brady House
