Introduction

The popularity of CBD has no doubt grown with more states legalizing cannabis, as well as, the passing of the Farm Bill in 2019. However, there is evidence that the CBD marketplace is saturated with brands with no clear outlet to effectively sell these products. The availability of CBD products may quite simply outpace the consumer demand creating a surplus, ultimately driving down the price of raw materials. So, how do you ensure that you are thinking long-term about your crop and making long term plans to

  • ptimize your hemp harvest?

Have you considered cultivating hemp for something other than CBD? Are you testing the cultivation conditions for hemp strains that can be used for industrial products? Are you diversifying your crop strain portfolio to pivot into new markets? In this webinar, we will discuss how to future-proof your harvest. We will explore how to find industry leaders and partners to create research agreements on the development of new products. There have been dozens

  • f arguments in the past about the many uses of industrial hemp. Now that we have industrial hemp, how

are we bringing back hemp industrialization, and subsequently manufacturing jobs to the US?

Overview of Webinar Goals

Discussion of the Size of the US Hemp Industry provided by the Farm Bill in 2019 All of the buzz around hemp is related to the pharmaceutical properties of CBD - but is that really all that hemp has to offer? We want to generate ideas and provide direction on how cultivators start thinking bigger the CBD. What else can we do with this cash crop? We have heard the arguments before - hemp can replace plastic, paper, hempcrete, and create fuel. Now that we have hemp, are we making moves to bring these products to life? How do we begin to think about the hemp harvest as more than a source of CBD and start capitalizing on the benefits of industrial hemp?

Why was Hemp Important to Our Founding Fathers?

Hemp dates back in the United States to Jamestown where it was growth for sails, rope, and clothing. Hemp was a cash crop and George Washington pushed for the growth of hemp. Early laws required American farmers in several colonies to grow hemp. Other presidents known to have farmed hemp for alternative purposes include Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor, and Franklin Pierce. Abraham Lincoln used hemp seed oil to fuel his household lamps. Hemp was exported to England where it was used for clothing, shoes, maps, books, ship’s rigging, parachute webbing, baggage, sails, and tents. For over 200 years, hemp was considered a legal currency that could be used to pay taxes.

License Hemp Acreage is Bigger Than Ever

  • As of June 2020, licensed total hemp acreage

to date had reached 465,787 acres for the 2020 production season, with 47 state departments of agriculture reporting numbers to Hemp Industry Daily.

  • The 2020 licensed acreage is a 9% decrease,

compared to 511,442 total licensed acres of hemp across 34 states in 2019, which was more than quadruple the number of acres licensed from 2018, industry advocacy group Vote Hemp reported last fall.

Why Should Manufacturers Switch to Hemp?

Hemp is less expensive to produce that using trees for paper products Hemp is sustainable Hemp is consider “green” and people are looking to make sustainable purchases Hemp is cultivated in the United States - if you find manufacturers in the United States - then the products are produced in the United States. There is ALOT to be said about bringing back manufacturing jobs.
