  14. UC – PERSONAL INSIGHT QUESTIONS DIRECTIONS • Need to respond to 4 out of 8 • Each response is limited to 350 words • Select questions that are most relevant to your experience and that best reflect your individual circumstances.

  15. TIPS FOR UC PERSONAL INSIGHT QUESTIONS You’re talking to all the UC Poems, scene- campuses in your response. Campus Specific setting, clichés. Don’t ask questions. Get Creative to the point and say Philosophy Writing what you mean. Avoid Want to know your Common thoughts and words, not Mistakes someone else’s. They won’t look it up, so Quotations Acronyms spell it out. Repetition Give new info that cannot be found in other sections of the application

TIPS FOR UC PERSONAL INSIGHT QUESTIONS • Final Tip: • The Personal Insight Questions is your opportunity to informally interview with the UC’s. • They don’t look at writing style; they look for content. Your response should add clarity, depth and/or context to the application as a whole. Be you! • Use plenty of “I” statements. Talk about yourself so that the UC’s can get to know your personality, talents, accomplishments and potential for success on a UC campus.

  19. COMMON APP ESSAY PROMPTS • Some students have a background, identity, interest or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story. • The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience. • Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome? • Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma – anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution. • (650 WORD COUNT)

Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more? • Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you’ve already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design. • (650 WORD COUNT)

(Recommended length: 100 words) • Please briefly state your reason for wishing to attend LMU and/or how you came to select your major. • USC students are known to be involved. Briefly describe a non-academic pursuit (such as service to community or family, a club or sport, or work, etc.) that best illustrates who you are, and why it is important to you. (250 word limit)
