Her attitude, dedication, friendship and the desire to encourage those around her with positive comments have endeared her to many of her
team and very rarely missed a training event. Above all she performed at the HASSRA Festivals during a very difficult time for her personally. Shirlee Wilcock (Runner- Up) Shirlee is a great all round sportswoman and took part in the Ladies Football, Rounder’s and Touch Rugby, often travelling
11 to events on the day due to her work with HPE. As well as being part of the successful Football Team she was the Female player in the Challenge Cup Tournament. She has arranged for her teams outside of HASSRA to compete against the HASSRA players to provide a high standard of competition and help prepare for the HASSRA events. She is passionate during competitions providing praise and support to her team-mates and has been the unsung hero in Fylde sporting events. Gill Rowland Gill was a member of the Ladies Football Team which won the National Championship and represented HASSRA Fylde at Indoor Cricket. She is a key member of the Rounder’s and Netball Team, taking on the role of Netball captain and
husband’s birthday due to her Netball commitments.
The Ron Brierley Trophy - Contributor of the Year This award is to recognise a member who has contributed a significant effort to HASSRA by taking part in a variety
Previous Winner 2015 Paul Whiteley NOMINEES Joanne Graham (WINNER) Joanne has attended Rounder’s and Touch Rugby training sessions and encouraged others to participate as well, even though these were new activities to all. She participated in the Challenge Cup Football Tournament, even though it was
12 in various activities but her performance on the accordion result in her winning the Instrumental category and then became the Overall HASSRA National Music Champion. Her chocolate creation won the Best Bake Category in the Regional DWP Bake Off. She is a member of the Fylde Events Competitions and Communications Sub Committees and a keen advocate of the benefits of Fylde membership and promotes HASSRA at local staff induction days with her vibrant, upbeat and bubbly demeanour. Becky MacDonald( Runner- Up) Becky is a member of the Fylde Competition and Events Sub- Committee, organising Taster Events and qualifying events for National Championships. She had to source the venues and arrange costing and business cases for the Committee to
Rounder’s and Table Tennis. In the annual Challenge Cup Tournament she assisted by selling raffle tickets and taking part in various games as well as turning out herself in aid of worthy causes. She took time to promote HASSRA to new staff and become involved in local Wellbeing activities.

In the CSSC National Championships he reached the Semi-Finals. During his free time he undertakes maintenance on the two snooker tables in the HASSRA Room at Warbreck to ensure they remain in good condition. Andy Bray Andy took victory in the CSSC National Cycling Championships Veterans Category and was the Open Age Winner in the CSSC North West Cycling 10 mile Points Road Race Championships. He competed for HASSRA in the CSSC National Swimming Championships returning with a number of Medals in his age category. This success helped him to be recognised by the North West CSSC as he was awarded CSSC Sportsperson of the Year. He also features in the top 3 in local Triathlons and has been known to compete in CSSC Half Marathon Championships. Tony Briggs (WINNER) Tony was captain of the HASSRA Fylde Touch Rugby Team which won its Championship at the Winter Festival. He also coached the team and made them a force to be reckoned with through his teaching, mentoring and tactical awareness. He is a team player and welcomes players of all standards. He participated in the squash tournament and has also taken on the role of Manager of the Men’s Football Team
16 Chris Gale During 2016 Chris won a number of County Titles and was again selected to represent England Outdoors. His successes are in Flat Green Bowling in both Outdoor and Indoor competitions with varying levels of achievement. He won a number of CSSC Titles and is willing to assist other members
the Junior Section of the Heaton Hall Club and Lancashire Junior Section. He is ranked 1 on the European Indoor Ranking List and 28 on the World List. Paul Taylor (Runner- Up) Paul is a Crown and Flat Green Bowler and won National CSSC Titles in the Crown Green Mixed Pairs Championship. He has represented CSSC at both Regional and National level in matches against Cumbria and the federation of Crown Green Bowlers. He assisted the Norcross Bowling Club in winning promotion to the 1st Division in the Thornton Cleveleys League and personally finishing 2nd in the League

Walks are advertised in the Fylde Flyer and the Club’s own magazine which also includes pictures and tales of days out. Taster events are open to non- members and the benefits of healthy exercise are promoted. Members took part in Charity raising events including one
great success with numerous walks on offer and a chance to
enjoyed a week’s walking in Somerset. A library of maps, books, magazines and videos is maintained for members to use along with the chance to purchase club clothing. Norcross Cricket Club (Runner- Up) The Club has 3 Senior Teams playing matches most weekends and a thriving Junior Section with over 40
until the weather improves to move outdoors. An annual cricket task force ensure that the ground is fit for purpose with the help of an ECB Grant. Volunteers remain the life blood of the club and this has been recognised by Lancashire Sport in their awards. Communication within the Club is achieved via Website, Facebook, email, apps and Twitter. Various social events are held during the year including a well attended Presentation Night. In 2016 the first ever Female player made her appearance for Norcross playing alongside her Father. Finally, the U11 team were guard of honour when Lancashire played at Blackpool Cricket Club.
20 The Fylde Golf Society (WINNER) 2016 was a successful year for the Club and attracted a number of new members with over 50 Men & Women now associated with FSG. This includes all abilities and every effort is made to ensure that groupings include all those with different handicaps. The club organises numerous outings to local courses and has a number of competitions that are played during the season. The Club also stages its own version of the Ryder Cup known as the Fylder Cup. The Club
participated in HASSRA and CSSC competitions. In order to gain experience the Captain and Vice Captain are appointed each year with the Vice Captain becoming captain the following year. An annual survey of members results in suggestions being adopted the following year to benefit members. The Whittaker Trophy - Volunteer of the Year This trophy is awarded to the HASSRA member who is deemed to have contributed most to the Association in a voluntary capacity in the nomination year. This requires dedication and work in her own time which she gives willing to the HASSRA cause. Cheryl Fothergill (Runner- Up) Cheryl is Treasurer of the successful Norcross Cricket Club
Senior Teams. She assists on match days and is part of the ground force team which ensures that the cricket pavilion and sports grounds are ready for the summer months. She was a member of the Warbreck Committee and undertook the role of Chair of the Trips Sub-Committee, leading them successfully through a period of transition. She is also a member of the HASSRA Fylde Board of Management. She also judged the regional DWP Challenge Bake Off Event. Alan McNeil Alan is a member of the Competitions & Events Sub- Committee and arranged Taster Days for Archery/Rifle Shooting and Zumba both of which were well attended. He has attended new staff induction sessions to promote the benefits of HASSRA Fylde. He represented Fylde in the Golf Tournament at the Festivals and was 3rd in the Golf Society’s Order of Merit. He was participated in and helped to referee at the Challenge Cup Tournament. Alan Garforth Alan has been Secretary of the Table Tennis Club for many years and ensures that the club continues to run in a well
many of the tasks that members take for granted would not be performed and events would not take place.
22 Simon Jowitt (WINNER) Simon is Chair of the Communications and Competitions & events Sub-Committees and a member of the HASSRA Fylde Board of Management. He launched the publication of the HASSRA Fylde Newsletter gathering information on local HASSRA Clubs and activities. He is the administrator for the HASSRA Fylde Facebook Page which has over 1,100 members and responds to queries and questions on a regular basis, all in his own time. A Twitter account made its appearance in 2016 thanks to Simon. He has organised local Taster Events, attended new staff induction sessions to promote HASSRA and was overall Team Captain at the HASSRA Festivals which saw great success for the Fylde Teams, receiving personal congratulations from Craig Lewis for Fylde’s efforts. As well as organising the 2016 Presentation Night Simon has made a great contribution to re- establishing Fylde at National level.
