Our situation

THE SITUATION

Mostly adult recreative league players Big territory Not much help from the public sector More and more teams play all year long Lack of fields (quantity and quality) 7 vs 7 only possible/viable during the summer

OUR GOAL

Making sure as many players as possible can play all year long. More players = more recognition

7 décembre 2017 Fédération québécoise d'ultimate 8

OUR SOLUTION

Offering new formats

slide-9
SLIDE 9

5 vs 5 Change on the Fly / Speed Point 525 Accepted team registrations in 2017

PROS:

  • Our most popular format
  • Mixed (3 men / 2 women)
  • Generally a fixed location
  • Shorter game length (timeslots

rotation)

  • More players / teams at once
  • Still has long passes
  • Is played all year long
  • Big increase in summer

2016/2017

  • 1 day recreative tournaments

CONS:

  • Requires an employee
  • Requires a turf
  • Not a traditional format

SLIDE 10

4 vs 4 90 Accepted team registrations in winter 2017

PROS:

  • Mixed – Mainly parity nowadays
  • A lot more players on a field

(180/h/turf)

  • Very profitable
  • Fixed location
  • Indoor competitive scene

(tournaments)

  • Encourages advanced throws

CONS:

  • Requires an employee
  • Requires a turf
  • Not a traditional format
  • Very small field

Regional Growth - Conclusion

THE REASONS WE HEAR PEOPLE PREFER 5 VS 5 & 4 VS 4 FORMAT … 7 vs 7 takes too much of their time Traffic Points can be too long Not fun to cut out players at the end of the summer Better to play in one location each week Other formats removes a lot of responsibility from the team captains Easier to create a new team (less players required) 7 VS 7 IS MOSTLY APPRECIATED BY … Our old timers recreative players Our competitive players

THE FINAL WORD

There is always a way to make sure everyone (or almost everyone) can

  • play. We just need to be open-minded

and creative regardless of our

  • constraints. If we create/offer

something enjoyable, the players will adapt and like it.
