Overview:
- Provides an update on the changing economic environment and the potential
implications for Regional Services. City of Brampton (Comments from Government Relations):
- As the City continues to think bigger, several notable economic trends, in relation to
current City initiatives (i.e. Planning Vision, Strategic Plan, Game Changers, developing an affordable housing strategy, Economic Development Master Plan, etc.) are noted:
- Youth unemployment rate in 2017, 15.7%
- Increase in precarious employment
- Significant pockets of low-income earners in Brampton
- Increase in housing unaffordability
- Moving forward, opportunity for a strong presence at Regional Council to ensure needs
- f the City’s growing community are met.
Staff recommends receipt of report

Item 10.1: Update on Peel’s Changing Economic Environment (For Information)
Overview:
- Provides mapping of the agricultural system land base mapping identifies Provincial
Prime Agricultural Areas across the Region. City of Brampton (Comments from Planning & Development Services):
- Planning Staff has provided an important note on the agricultural system mapping:
- In Brampton, the only lands designated Prime Agriculture are located in the
Greenbelt Area.
- This designation places more restrictions on non-farm lot severances and
permissions for lands.
- Both Peel and Brampton staff are not sure the reasons for the agricultural
designation in the Greenbelt area of Brampton.
- The Region, through their Official Plan Review, will be reviewing and refining the
agricultural designation across the Region, including Brampton. Staff recommends receipt of report

Item 12.2: Provincial Natural Heritage System for the Growth Plan & Agricultural System for the GGH (For Information)
Overview:
- An Emergency Detour Route is a pre-determined route to help motorists bypass an
emergency road closure and minimize delays in travel. City of Brampton (Comments from Traffic Services):
- Traffic Services is aware of this initiative and have been part of the discussions within
the jurisdiction of Brampton.
- Emergency Detouring routing has been identified to remain on Regional Roads.
- The City’s involvement would only be from a standpoint of managing traffic signal
- peration, on behalf of the Region, to deal with the increase in congestion should an
incident arise. Staff recommends approval of recommendations
