1. Should students also attend the Academic Fair? ○ The night is for parents only. Students will hear the same information when they visit the JH on March 5. 2. Will the Academic Fair information be posted? ○ We will send out the slideshow from the Academic Fair via the Greene Newsletter the following week. 3. When will the Course Planner be posted on the website? ○ The Course Planner will be posted on the Junior High website beginning February. 4. If a student is in Accelerated classes (Language Arts or Math) at Greene, do they automatically continue with those classes at the junior high? ○ Yes, if a student is currently in Accelerated Language Arts or Math, they will automatically continue with these courses at the Junior High. 5. Can you explain the process for how students are placed into Honors classes? ○ In order to be placed into Honors courses, students must earn >90% on a MAP test (last 12 months) and/or teacher recommendation. Accelerated Math courses have separate requirements. 6. If you take a full year of music, do you have any opportunity to take an elective? ○ If a student takes a full year music, they will not have an opportunity to take an elective in their 7th grade year. However, they will have an opportunity to select an elective in their 8th grade year, pending needing additional supports. 7. When will more information be out about try-out dates for sports? ○ Our Athletic Director, Jim Dejoy, will communicate those dates soon via the Greene school newsletter. He will also be available for questions at our Academic Fair on February 25th. You may also reach him with any questions at dejoyj@sycamoreschools.org. 8. Is there bus service after school? ○ There is no bus service for sports or clubs that are held after school. There is bus service for our after school Homework Club. 9. Is there a night when parents can tour the building? ○ There are several opportunities for parents to access the building, but the best time is during Schedule Pick-up
10. If you are in a “no-cut sport”, do you have to be at practices during the summer? ○ While your athlete will still be able to participate, all athletes are expected to be present for the summer activities. Athletes will miss out on important information during this time as well as possible scrimmages. 11. Is recess before lunch? ○ Recess is the first 10 minutes of lunch and then students report to the cafeteria for the remaining 20 min. 12. Is the lunch assignment the same the whole school year? ○ Yes, generally speaking. The only variation in this would be if the students’ 5th bell is a semester course and the new teacher has a different lunch period. 13. If a student is placed in an Honors class, do all the academics have to be Honors? ○ No, students can have a mix of different levels of their academic classes. 14. How are the Honors classes and core classes different? ○ The curriculum is the same for both classes, but they are different in 2 ways: Honors courses have a faster pacing and the activities in the classroom are more rigorous. 15. Can parents or students request a student be placed into classes with their friends? ○ Students do not get the option of choosing to be in classes w/ friends because schedules are more individualized. There are a lot of
school year (clubs, extracurriculars). 16. Are students able to eat lunch with their friends? ○ Students are assigned to lunch based on their 5th bell class, but are not assigned to a seat so they may sit with friends in that lunch. We do not make schedule changes for 5th bells to accommodate lunch changes. 17. Is there a drama/theater class during the school day?
Company, in addition to 2 performances/year that students can participate in, but there is not a class during the school day designated to that subject.
