Goal of the Outreach Division The goal of the Outreach Division at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry is to provide dental, dental therapy and dental hygiene students with experiences that reinforce their knowledge of the principles


  1. Goal of the Outreach Division The goal of the Outreach Division at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry is to provide dental, dental therapy and dental hygiene students with experiences that reinforce their knowledge of the principles of delivering dental health care, while providing needed dental services to a variety of patients, including underserved patient populations, in contemporary off-site clinical settings. Such experiences also enable students to participate in community dental health education, as well as dental career promotion and inter- professional education activities.

  2. Clinical Standards at Outreach Sites University of Minnesota School of Dentistry 1. Students at Outreach clinics will deliver four-handed oral health care with the assistance of a trained dental assistant. 2. Clinical instruction at Outreach clinic sites will be provided by adjunct faculty of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. 3. Outreach clinic sites will provide contemporary clinical facilities that expose students to emerging dental technologies. 4. Adjunct faculty at Outreach sites will evaluate each student according to the standards of the School of Dentistry, and submit results on “Courseval”. 5. Students enter clinical patient information following each Outreach rotation 6. Outreach sites will assist the School of Dentistry in recouping lost revenue while students provide care at their site. 7. Adjunct faculty at Outreach sites will attend an annual “Outreach Dental Review,” sponsored by the School of Dentistry, designed to standardize the clinical instruction provided to the students. 8. Clinical operations will conform to all state and federal dental regulations Intended to provide the highest quality of patient care.
