Why Gamma Astronomy?

  • Gamma rays are produced in the most extreme environments of the Universe
  • Gamma rays can be used to explore Frontiers in Physics:

relativistic jets produced by massive and supermassive black holes shock waves produced by a star explosion (SuperNova) Gamma Ray Bursts dark matter annihilation signature quantum gravity effects in photon propagation

Connection cosmic rays-gamma-neutrino

Detection of Gamma Rays at >100 TeV is a signature for CR sources!! Detection of astrophysical neutrinos is smoking gun for CR source!!

Training for Students

  • Seminars and Computer projects will be proposed by the HESS/CTA group
  • Research M2 internship(s) followed by PhD Thesis projects will be proposed
  • n:
  • Data analysis for physics in HESS (binaries) and extrapolation for CTA
  • Monte Carlo studies of CTA performance for galactic science at extreme

energies and participation to CTA data analysis in first phases
