Data Path CreaRon and DestrucRon

  • ANDSF and Hotspot 2.0 allow the UE to take the decision

to offload its mobile traffic to Wi-Fi

  • The network cannot control the whole process

(e.g. cannot disconnect a UE from a Wi-Fi access point)

  • A proposed approach is to extend ANDSF and re-use the S14

interface to transmit the network’s command to the UE

  • The ANDSF provides the UE with policies and network selecEon

informaEon for influencing how users and their devices prioriEze between several non-3GPP access networks

  • Use a Local Gateway (LGW) or a gateway co-located with an

eNodeB to offload mobile traffic from the mobile core

  • Use distributed SGW/PGW to opEmize transport resource usage

RAN based process: Wi-Fi offload of mobile traffic Approaches above the radio access network
