  1. LED Streetlight Upgrade City of Pacific Grove February 21, 2018

  2. 2 Program Overview LED Streetlight Upgrade Program • PG&E & the industry are rapidly moving to discontinue High Pressure Sodium (HPS) Streetlights as they are much less efficient and reliable than LEDs. • This CPUC approved Program is our 1 st step towards eliminating HPS streetlights • We have completed about 90% of the approximately 150,000 eligible fixtures • The Program was scheduled to end in 2017, but has been extended thru 3/31/2018 • 50,000,000 kWh estimated annual energy savings across PG&E Territory • Energy savings of about 165,000 kWh per year • Bill reductions of about $2,000/month by the end of 2018 (full implementation)

  3. 3 Fixtures LED Fixtures "Like for Like" Wattage Table HPS Wattage LED Wattage • Manufactured by CREE 70 28 • Advanced Optics direct the light to 100 36 where it is intended 150 53 • Full cutoff, low glare and minimal light 200 69 trespass 250 83 • 3,000 & 4000 Kelvin CCT, available 400 133 • IDA Approved • Long life (20 years vs. 5 years) • 28, 36, 53, 69, 83 & 133 Watt fixtures @ 3000K • There are approximately 514 eligible fixtures in Pacific Grove. • Installation will take 2 to 4 weeks (pending weather).

  4. 4 Outreach Strategy Letters are sent to residents within 200’ of each pole on which we are changing the streetlight to LED

  5. Inquiry Management Inquiry Management • A PG&E Specialist will receive and manage inquiries • Typical inquiries include:  General information request  Too bright  Light intrusion  Not enough light  Add a light • Physical changes (shields & wattage changes) are up to the City • Specialist will review requests with City staff • Post installation field changes are $200 per fixture while we are still in the area

  6. Pacific Grove Program History Where have I heard/seen this before? • PG&E and Pacific Grove have been discussing this Program since May of 2016 • Pacific Grove opted-in to the Program in 4K, 29Watt May of 2016, but then asked us to delay implementation • Last Fall we began offering 3000K fixtures and installed 2 trial lights on Asilomar near a 4000K trial fixture. Residents preferred the 28W LED over the 36W LED (36 to 19) • In November the City asked about the idea of a phased approach which for logistical reasons we have been hesitant to do HPSV, 100Watt • The Program is nearing completion

  7. Where Do We Go From Here? • PG&E agrees to support a 2 Phase implementation • To participate, Pacific Grove needs to identify and approve a Phase 1 implementation (of any size) by March 8 • Upon completion of Phase 1, Pacific Grove has 30 days to receive community feedback and choose whether or not to move forward with Phase 2 • Phase 2, if desired (again, any size), must be identified and committed to within 30 days of PG&E notification that Phase 1 has been completed • PG&E staff is available to assist with Phase identification and wattage selection, but Pacific Grove with will be responsible • Removal of any fixtures would be through PG&E’s Service Planning Organizations as Work Requested by Others
