LED T8 replacements may contain dozens of high power LEDs or hundreds of 5 mm SMD- LED‘s behind a clear or frosted lens, all in a bi- pin T8 lamp package.

At present linear LED solutions are mainly
Widely known and offered are LED tubes as retrofit for existing fluorescent lamps very few with LED modules or LED stripes Both systems still do not offer light output levels equiv. to T8 fluorescent lamps.
7
On the market there are many suppliers of LED tubes who want to replace T8 fluorescent lamps:

LED retrofit tubes in light fittings of increased safety type Ex-e require an approved type of protection acc. IEC/EN ex-standards. Thus they require to be operated with components that do not spark, arc or create heat above T-ratings. LED´s are semi conductors and can only be operated in an Ex d - flameproof enclosure – without special protection. For use in Ex e light fittings a suitable type of protection has to be selected. Temperature plays a vital role in explosion protection but also has a large influence on the life time of any LED. Why is temperature so critical?
Lumen output is reduced as junction temperature increase. 5% reduction in light output for every 20º C increase Life-time dependant on junction temperature Varies by manufacturer and thermal resistance is crucial in selection process

A light density > 30k cd/m² is inconvenient = disability glare Fluorescent tubes T8: 10..15k cd/m² T5: 15..35k cd/m² Incandescent bulb (100 W) : ~25k cd/m² LED Fortimo 2000: ~700k cd/m² (LLM 225k cd/m²) Chip 1 W: ~1…6.000k cd/m² Arrays 10 W: ~3…6.000k cd/m² Typical solution would be a diffuser or frosted glass: => >50% loss of light output and change of light distribution curve. ´ Light is not only important for safety but also for human wellness
