OPENING PRAYER

Dear Jesus, Please help me to live the way God wants me to live and to love God more than anything else. In your name I pray. Amen.

GOSPEL LEARNING

The Gospel reading today comes from St.

• Luke. When we see a cross we think of Jesus’

sacrifice for us. We also have our own crosses in our lives. Jesus had something to say about our crosses and teaches us about the demands of discipleship.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

25 Sinundan si Jesus ng maraming tao, kaya humarap

sya at sinabi sa kanila, 26 “Hindi ka pwedeng maging disciple ko, unless mahalin mo ako nang higit sa tatay at nanay mo, asawa at mga anak, mga kapatid, at kahit sa sarili mong buhay. 27 Kung di mo papasanin ang sarili mong krus at di ka susunod sa akin, hindi ka pwedeng maging disciple ko. 28 Kung may nagplaplano sa inyong magtayo ng tower, di ba uupo muna sya at magbibilang kung may sapat ba syang pera para matapos yun?

Kung hindi, pagtatawanan sya ng mga taong makakakitang nailagay ang pundasyon pero hindi natapos ang pinapatayo nya.

30 Sasabihin nila, ‘Nagsimulang

magtayo ang taong ito, pero hindi nya natapos.’ 31 O kaya, sinong hari ang makikipaglaban sa isa pang hari na hindi muna uupo at ang 20,000 na sundalo ng kalaban? 32 Kung sa tingin nyang hindi nya kaya, magpapadala na sya agad ng representative para makipag-ayos, habang malayo pa ang kalabang hari. 33 Kaya, kung hindi mo kayang i-give up lahat ng meron ka, hindi ka pwedeng maging disciple ko.” The Gospel of the Lord.

When we see a cross, we think of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. Have you also sacrificed something in order to follow the path of Jesus?

Being a disciple of Jesus is really

• hard. In the Gospel today, Jesus says

we need to love God more than anyone or anything in our lives including our own life.

• 3. GOSPEL CHALLENGE

The last line of the Gospel, tells us what God is expecting of each of us, “carry your own cross and come with me.” What are you willing to sacrifice in order to follow God?

TRIVIA: RENUNCIATION

Renunciation of one’s material possessions is the challenge posed by Jesus in the Gospel to all those who desire to follow him. Becoming Jesus’ disciples requires a total commitment of one’s self to him, devoid of any attachment.
