  • 1886 – 1968 Chesapeake Dry Dock and Construction Co./Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company (NNS)
  • 1968 – 1996 NNS is purchased and held by Tenneco
  • 1996 – 2001 NNS is once again independent
  • 2001 – 2011 NNS is purchased by Northrop Grumman and merged with Gulf Coast shipyards as NGSB
  • 2011 – NGSB is spun off; Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) emerges with two shipbuilding operating divisions
  • 2014 – HII’s first Corporate acquisition, The S.M. Stoller Corporation – a midsized nuclear-based environmental

clean-up and waste management firm – reports through NNS operating division

  • 2015 – HII merges Stoller with existing subsidiary Newport News Nuclear (owner of SRS M&O) to form SN3
  • 2016 – HII purchases Camber Corporation, a midsized defense contractor with strengths in cyber ops, systems

engineering support, logistics management, and business and program support services

  • 2017 – HII stands up a third operating division, HII Technical Solutions, to consolidate “services” subsidiaries
