20th Century solution

… and yet we still have this … Not all roads have these … … but many drivers have these …

SWHAUC 221015 21

slide-22
SLIDE 22
  • Enables officers to plan and publish road closures

and other disruptions with a few clicks of the mouse

  • Instantly inform the public via the web and sat-nav

devices, influencing real driver behaviour

  • Coordination and workflow efficiency. Time saving

reported at > 9 hours per TTRO (Ringway / Hertfordshire CC)

Traffic Management App

SWHAUC 221015 22

slide-23
SLIDE 23
  • Roughly 50% of Utility works require some form of traffic management
  • Increasingly Permit Scheme authorities require a TM plan for all activities
  • External providers charge at least £100 per plan – even for simple ones
  • Inefficient processes for Permits and TTROs result in delays and FPNs

Traffic Management

SWHAUC 221015 23

slide-24
SLIDE 24
  • Internal works promoters can produce simple, effective traffic management plans

in-house at a fraction of the cost

  • Permit/Notices and TTRO applications can be streamlined with minimal hand-
  • ffs and digital submission between works promoters (SU’s too) and the street

works team

  • Eliminate the cost of outsourcing plans for 80% of works (Utility B’s estimate)

Traffic Management

Submit to Highway Authority

SWHAUC 221015 24

slide-25
SLIDE 25

Signage App

  • Easy to use tool to create basic signage and traffic control plans
  • Cuts out external costs, inefficient paper based processes and the

errors that often arise from multiple hand-offs

  • Simple Google Maps interface combined with Ordnance Survey detail

Process of App for a Works Promoter

SWHAUC 221015

Step 1:

  • Identify the works location (plot new or associate with EToN)
  • Coordinate and check for clashes with roadworks.org map layers

27

slide-28
SLIDE 28

Process of App for a Works Promoter

SWHAUC 221015

  • The Signage App also includes OS MasterMap for address point detail

planning (seamless Zoom from Google Maps to OS MasterMap)

28

slide-29
SLIDE 29

Process of App for a Works Promoter

SWHAUC 221015

Step 2:

  • Plot the traffic management disruptions (road closure and diversion).
  • Add the relevant Chapter 8 signs, use the measuring tools and refer to

the in line help (Red Book & Pink Book).

29

slide-30
SLIDE 30

Search & Edit: View all saved plans in the Search & Edit – view, edit and copy plans Review Plan Submissions (dashboard) - check the status of a plan or TTRO application Comment functionality – have a dialogue with the Highway Authority (or

  • ther interested parties over feedback etc)

32

slide-33
SLIDE 33

Process of App for Highway Authority

SWHAUC 221015

Plan Submissions: If the Traffic Management Plan (and or TTRO) is submitted to a Highway Authority, they also have a ‘Plan Submissions’ dashboard and can review the plan – accepting, rejecting and giving comments. Plans can be grants, accepted, pending or rejected, improving communication between Utilities and Highway Authorities, ensuring the applications reach the right people every time!
