  4. In his book ‘Fashion Film’ Nick Rees-Roberts asks if fashion film could “operate as a more critical vehicle for oppositional types of representation that question the consumer-driven status quo” (2018, p.4). Our research question, and therefore film, attempts to question the representation of a community of students who leave all work till last minute (They wait until one week before the deadline to actually start producing any form of work). We are exploring this community in an oppositional way to the status quo through looking at the reasoning behind what drives them to do so. We will not be approaching this community in terms of time as their main issue, but rather how a sense of addictive adrenaline makes them feel elevated and drives them to repeat their mission to remain in the ‘deadline club’.

  6. We will be focusing on students, and in particular three di ff erent types of students, all of whom still form up the ‘deadline club’: 1. Doesn’t plan work at all and leaves it till last minute. 2. Works at a slow yet steady pace, however has to rush at the end to get work complete. 3. Does 80% of work, stops, rushes near deadline to complete. This is a community in which we ourselves fit into and so we will be representing the community through our film adopting these roles. We want to explore the reasoning behind why this community does what they do. Do they do it because they enjoy the sensation? Does adrenaline acts as an addictive drug? Do they love the feeling? Does the after relief appear addictive to them? Is it part of the appeal? Although work is produced last minute, the quality is often high, and this rushed period is often when this community works at their best. Its where they feel most elevated as an individual and so choose to repeat the event of leaving work last minute because they’re addicted to that feeling of being elevated. ‘An addictive quality to being in that hyper space’

  8. In order to really get involved within this community we will be leaving our film editing till the week before the deadline. We will be rigorous throughout this experience to ensure that we do partake in the ritual of this community while still ensuring that our film will be done. Our filming will be done prior, while our editing will be left till last minute. STYLE AND PRODUCTION We want our short film to have a messy yet high quality look. Scenes will mainly be composed of handheld first person filming. The three di ff erent deadline club members will be filming their own experiences on their phones. Then these three pieces of footage will be combined onto our final piece of production. Alongside this rough footage we will have some DSLR camera scenes to help exaggerate the rush and messiness of the other film pieces.

  10. Examples : You are part of this community, which is why you should be interested. Whether you do it now or have so earlier in life, leaving things till the deadline is common. However, the reasoning behind each person di ff ers. Although we are focusing on how this community engages in this action for the satisfaction of feeling elevated, there are many other factors which lead to leaving things last minute. Factors which you may relate to and experience. Students are part of this community and so are you.
