  2. 100-Year Legacy

  3. PORT SAN ANTONIO, TX An Industry That Builds & Transforms Regional Economies EVERETT, WA BROOKLEY AEROPLEX, AL

  4. Why San Antonio? Our existing infrastructure is built to support aerospace... BUT... That infrastructure is aging, and not always state-of-the-art. Our current workforce and pipeline... BUT... We need to keep and sharpen our edge. Our strong industry cluster, including key leaders... BUT... We need to bolster and expand that base, including diversification and nose-to-tail capability.

  5. Trends MILITARY • Less funding / Steady demand • Modernization • Emphasis on skills, value & efficiency COMMERCIAL • Increased technology • Nose to tail capability • Emphasis on skills, value & efficiency COMPANY OPERATIONS • Shorten supply chains • OEM involvement in sustainment • Operational and organizational consolidation • Emphasis on skills, value & efficiency

  7. What’s our STRENGTH? KEY INDUSTRY PLAYERS Ability to attract vendors, suppliers, support (cut our secondary logistics costs and risks) WORKFORCE AND PIPELINE A demonstrated ability to rise to the challenge. COST BUT... Competing largely on labor costs is NOT a path to long-term success.

  8. What are our WEAKNESSES? HISTORIC CORE COMPETENCE IS AGING AIRFRAMES AND POWER-PLANTS. Will stay differentiator in near-term, but we need to demonstrate mastery of new technology in mid- to long-term. CAPABILITY GAPS We’re missing some key elements. Capabilities are not always compatible.

  9. How can we DIVERSIFY? SMALL INPUTS = BIG RESULTS 1. Expand on sustainment to include other professionals and capabilities beyond touch labor: - Life-cycle management - Supplier management - Engineering - Cyber security

  10. How can we DIVERSIFY? SMALL INPUTS = BIG RESULTS 2. Increase back shop capability (aerospace maintenance IS advanced manufacturing). 3. Close nose-to-tail capability gaps.
