A Wish List for Patent Systems in BRIC countries

• IP plays an important role in providing the incentives necessary for the

development and marketing of new medicines. An effective, transparent, and predictable IP system is necessary for both manufacturers of innovative medicines and manufacturers of generic medicines.

• Common international standards for patentability, patent examination

and enforcement

• High quality patent examination leading to strong patents and a strong

presumption of validity

• Stronger interaction of examiners and judges on international level
• Effective protection for clinical data
• Availability of effective enforcement system including PIs or patent

linkage systems
