Bijlsma Wartena was established in 1903. It all started when two brothers who were ship carpenters bought a terrain in Wartena and built a shipyard here. The shipyard has always been in the family Bijlsma and has been passed on to sons ever since. On the left Gerben Bijlsma, father of Tjeerd- Wiebe Bijlsma, is standing next to the Wilhelmina V, 1974.
