Two Extremes:

1. Baptism isn’t necessary for salvation, therefore, it doesn’t matter if I get baptized.

• 2. Baptism is necessary for salvation, therefore,

you must get baptized.

18 Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority

has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

1. Who should get baptized? What is the prerequisite?

that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!” 37 When they heard this, they came under deep conviction and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: “Brothers, what must we do?” 38 “Repent,” Peter said to them, “and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism is to be practiced by those who have repented of their rebellion toward God and trusted in Jesus as Lord and Savior

Key Thought

Baptism is not necessary for salvation, but it is necessary if we are going to truly be followers of Jesus because to truly follow Jesus means we choose to obey Jesus.
