  4. Dry type outdoor terminations – flexible (ESF) Advantages  No insulating oil, no leaking, explosion resistant  Safe and easy installation on the ground  Each stress cone routine tested according IEC 60840  No scaffold necessary;  Very cost effective solution by well known and proven electric design Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 3 19.10.2015

  5. Dry type outdoor terminations – self supported (EST) Advantages  No insulating oil, no leaking, explosion resistant  Safe and easy installation on the ground  Lifting on the tower using easy lifting tool  Baseplate and support construction is 360° rotating around the termination during lifting  Each stress cone routine tested according IEC 60840  No scaffold on the tower necessary; saving total project costs  Short shut out times of the overhead lines (max 1 day for 3 phases)  PFISTERER patented solution Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 4 19.10.2015

  6. Combining both advantages – EST for Substation Application 1  No insulating oil, no leaking, explosion resistant  Safe and easy installation on the ground  Mechanical part of termination installed directly on support  Lifting and easy adjusting possible due to open base plate  Each stress cone routine tested according IEC 60840  No scaffold necessary; saving total project costs  Combining mechanic stability and cost effectiveness Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 5 19.10.2015

  7. Integrated surge arrester – EST for Substation Application 2  No insulating oil, no leaking, explosion resistant  Safe and easy installation on the ground  Mechanical part of termination installed directly on support  Lifting and easy adjusting possible due to open base plate  Each stress cone routine tested according IEC 60840  No scaffold necessary; saving total project costs  Combining mechanic stability and cost effectiveness  Further cost saving as post insulator is replaced by surge arrester  Space and cost saving potential at substation design: Only one standard support for two components Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 6 19.10.2015

  8. Surge Arrester – how to integrate  Base plate where a surge arrester is mounted has to be on earth potential  Surge arresters for solid earthed systems as well as coil earthed systems has to be considered  Tube type surge arresters offer highest mechanical stability and save conditions during an incident  Cage type surge arresters offering sufficient mechanical stability, during an incident in worst case can harm the functional design of the termination but offer cost effectiveness  The electric influence of both, termination and surge arrester, on each other has to be clearly understood to define a optimal combined product. Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 7 19.10.2015

  9. Surge Arrester – how to integrate  Distribution of the electric potential along metal oxide is more homogenous  the voltage along the upper discs is reduced by the influence of the cable termination  This effect gets stronger by shorter distances.  The electric field strength along the silicone sheds at the surge arrester normally is highest at the upper part of the surge arrester  Depending on smaller distances towards a cable termination this effect can be equalized or even inverse.  Electric field strength at the cable termination is forced from the upper part of the termination towards the lower part  Electric field strength is higher at the side of the surge arrester by smaller distances. Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 8 19.10.2015

  10. Advanced testing for higher customer benefit  Type- and Prequalification tests according to IEC60840 or IEC62067 have to be performed on all cable Accessories for most Customer  Additional material tests like the tracking and erosion test according to IEC60587 (Third edition, 2007-05)  Mechanical cantilever tests has been performed during the development stage Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 9 19.10.2015

  11. Advanced testing for higher customer benefit  Salt fog withstand test according to UX LK 208 Rev. 01 and based on IEC 60507 (Second edition 1991-04), confirming the required specified salinity of 112 kg/m 3 at a test voltage of 98.1 kV (170 kV / √3 ).  Wet power frequency withstand voltage test according to UX LK 208 Rev. 01, which consists on the application of 2,5 U 0 (218kV) during 15 minutes while the test object is under artificial rain as stated in IEC 60060-1 Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 10 19.10.2015

  12. Connex pluggable solutions – Combining different worlds Transformer Testing: IEC 60137 Housing: EN 50299 Cable termination Testing: IEC 60840 and IEC 62067 GIS Testing: IEC 62271-203 Housing: IEC 62271-209 Matthias Freilinger – Adaption of Cable Accessories for Onshore and Offshore Substation 11 19.10.2015
